Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity to join Clayton Utz's market-leading Data Intelligence Practice as a Consultant, based in our Sydney office. Join our nationally collaborative, high-performing team led by industry leaders Owen Bourke (Partner and Head of Data Intelligence), Loren Harper-Moeskops and Scott Murphy. In this role, you'll contribute to the design and delivery of cutting-edge technology and AI-augmented workflows that enhance and transform our legal service offering. We are open to candidates who are recent graduates (or will graduate shortly) with the right aptitude and attitude, or candidates with experience in similar roles. We will provide training and coaching to set you up for success.

The Role

As a Consultant in the Data Intelligence practice, you'll join a collaborative, high-performing team leading the transformation of how legal services are delivered. In this role, you'll play a key part in delivering legal technology, AI-driven workflows, and eDiscovery services across a range of matters including class actions, regulatory investigations, large-scale disputes, and other data-intensive matters. Partnering closely with our legal teams and clients, you'll be part of a team dedicated to turning complex data challenges into structured, defensible solutions. This role harnesses skills in technology, project management, and client engagement to deliver innovative, high-quality, and value driven solutions for our clients and legal teams. Leveraging industry-leading eDiscovery and AI platforms, including advanced AI-powered review technologies, you'll create customised solutions designed to address the unique challenges of our clients. To support your success, you'll have access to industry leading tools such as Harvey AI, Relativity, Mary, and bespoke solutions like CaseTrace (and more), alongside the people and infrastructure needed to deliver exceptional results.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Qualifications: A tertiary qualification in Law, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Commerce, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: A logical and proactive approach to tackling technical and non-technical challenges, paired with curiosity and a willingness to embrace new skills in a rapidly evolving environment.
  • Analytical Ability: Strong analytical abilities to assess and interpret data effectively, with the capability to prioritise tasks and delegate when necessary.
  • Technical Expertise: Familiarity with legal technology platforms and eDiscovery tools such as Relativity, Harvey, Mary Technology, or similar AI and data analytics tools. While formal experience is a plus, a keen interest and willingness to learn are equally important.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail, with the ability to simplify complex data or technology concepts and present them in a clear, accessible way.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling you to explain technical solutions to non-technical audiences, build strong relationships, and positively influence clients and colleagues.
  • Organisational Skills: Solid time management and organisational skills to juggle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced, solutions-driven environment.
  • Teamwork: A collaborative and team-oriented mindset, with the ability to work seamlessly within multidisciplinary teams of lawyers, technologists, and data specialists.
  • Creativity and Innovation: A bold, creative mindset with a passion for challenging the status quo.
