Database Engineer III

The organization is introducing new NoSQL database platforms and requires an experienced engineer to help design, build, implement, and support the infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Looking for a hands-on, technically strong NoSQL Database Engineer with 5 years of experience supporting self-managed / on-premises database platforms. The ideal candidate will be a builder rather than simply a user or operator of databases, with experience in designing, deploying, automating, and supporting database infrastructure in production.
• The candidate should be comfortable working across database, Linux, storage, networking, backup, disaster recovery, monitoring, and automation disciplines. They must also be able to connect the dots between database requirements, infrastructure dependencies, application needs, security, compliance, and operational standards.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills are important. The individual will work with database engineers, infrastructure teams, developers, security, compliance, and other technical stakeholders. The candidate should be able to take technical ownership, mentor other DBAs, and learn new technologies quickly.

Top Three Technical Skills: 

o   MongoDB (Document Model), including platform design, deployment, configuration, operations, replication, backup, recovery, and high availability

o   Cassandra, including cluster deployment, scaling, performance, replication, troubleshooting, and production support.

o   Redis, including deployment, configuration, availability, persistence, monitoring, and operational support.

Projects & day-to-day work

o   Design, build, configure, and support self-managed and on-premises database infrastructure.

o   Support production environments, including backup and recovery, disaster recovery, replication, high availability, patching, monitoring, capacity planning, performance troubleshooting, storage expansion, and incident resolution.

o   Mentor other DBAs and champion the adoption and effective use of NoSQL database platforms.

o   Document architecture, deployment procedures, operational standards, backup and recovery processes, and troubleshooting procedures.

o   Attend meetings, participate in design discussions, and complete project assignments.

Summary 

o   Demonstrated experience building, deploying, and supporting database infrastructure rather than only performing routine database administration.

o   Experience with MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, Neo4j Graph, or comparable NoSQL technologies.

o   History of infrastructure support, including storage expansion, capacity planning, Linux administration, platform upgrades, monitoring, and production troubleshooting.

o   Scripting and automation experience using Ansible, Infrastructure as Code, Python, Shell, Terraform, or similar technologies.

o   An eager learner with a demonstrated ability to work hands-on, solve complex problems, and connect database requirements to broader infrastructure and application needs.
