Job Description

An established and growing power generation and engineering business is seeking a Field Service Engineer to join its South Coast operation. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer with mechanical, electrical, diesel engine, plant, or generator experience to work on a varied fleet of equipment while supporting a diverse customer base.

The Role

As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing generators and associated equipment across customer sites and company locations. You will play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability while delivering excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and fault-find electrical and mechanical issues
  • Carry out engine, electrical, and mechanical repairs
  • Replace faulty components and assemblies
  • Perform routine servicing and preventative maintenance
  • Conduct control panel modifications and adjustments
  • Liaise with customers, providing updates and technical support
  • Participate in an on-call rota for breakdown support (1 week in 5)
  • Ensure compliance with all health & safety procedures
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and vehicle care
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and quality standards

About You

You will ideally hold a qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Diesel Fitting, Plant Engineering, or a related discipline.

We welcome applications from candidates who:

  • Hold a City & Guilds, BTEC, NVQ, apprenticeship, or equivalent engineering qualification
  • Have proven experience servicing and repairing generators, diesel engines, plant machinery, or related equipment
  • Possess strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Have experience working in a field service environment
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Can work independently and as part of a team
  • Hold a full UK driving licence (towing entitlement advantageous)
  • Hold an ECS or CSCS card (desirable but not essential)

Overtime Rates

  • Monday to Saturday (12:00am to 4:00am): Double Time
  • All other out-of-hours work: Time and a Half
  • Sundays & Bank Holidays: Double Time
