Principal Systems Engineer | Southampton, United Kingdom | On-site | £58,000

The Role

  • Apply Systems Thinking to understand complex problem spaces, manage constraints, and balance trade-offs.
  • Drive Requirements Leadership and Management, ensuring clear capture, decomposition, traceability, and change control.
  • Champion Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) by modeling system behavior, structure, and interfaces.
  • Utilize Problem Decomposition & Complexity Management to break down multi-domain challenges and maintain decision records.
  • Contribute to Lifecycle Delivery and Systems Integration, tailoring processes and planning integration activities.
  • Provide Technical Leadership and Mentorship to junior engineers, promoting best practices.

What You'll Need

  • Strong experience in systems engineering across the full lifecycle, including requirements management, architecture definition, integration, MBSE, and V&V.
  • Proven experience with high-level design methodologies (e.g., UAF, NAF, TOGAF, SysML, UML) and MBSE tools (e.g., Enterprise Architect).
  • Experience with requirements and interface management toolsets (e.g., DOORS) and maintaining traceability.
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering standards and principles, including ISO 15288.
  • Exposure to system integration and verification activities.
  • Degree qualification in a STEM or systems-related discipline, or equivalent experience, working towards CEng or operating at that level.
