Job Description

Principal Systems Engineer | Waterlooville, United Kingdom | On-site | Up to £58,000 + 10% bonus

The Role

  • Apply Systems Thinking to understand complex problem spaces, manage constraints, and balance trade-offs in system architecture and interfaces.
  • Provide strong Requirements Leadership and Management, capturing, decomposing, and agreeing requirements while maintaining traceability and managing change.
  • Champion Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) by modeling system behavior, structure, and interfaces, adhering to standards, and generating controlled outputs.
  • Apply Problem Decomposition & Complexity Management to break down multi-domain challenges and maintain structured decision records.
  • Contribute to Lifecycle Delivery & Systems Integration, tailoring processes, planning integration, and preparing for design and test reviews.
  • Provide technical leadership, act as a technical authority, engage with customers and suppliers, and mentor engineers.

What You'll Need

  • Strong experience applying systems engineering across the lifecycle, including requirements management, architecture definition, MBSE, and verification & validation (V&V).
  • Experience with high-level design methodologies and architectures (e.g., UAF, NAF, TOGAF, SysML, UML) and practical MBSE capability using tools like Enterprise Architect.
  • Experience using requirements and interface management toolsets (e.g., DOORS) for traceability and interface control.
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering standards and principles, including ISO 15288.
  • Exposure to system integration and verification activities.
  • Degree-level qualification (or equivalent experience) in a STEM or systems-related discipline, with a strong capacity towards achieving Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
