Job Description

Role: Linux Engineer 
Duration: This is a 4+ month contract 

Location: will be remote.


Position Overview
The Linux Engineer will provide additional bandwidth and a fresh perspective to help remediate persistent vulnerabilities across the Linux server environment. The team currently has two experienced Linux administrators, but they are heavily committed to other priorities. The focus is not routine administration, but identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving security findings that continue to appear in vulnerability scans.
Key Responsibilities

·         Review weekly Qualys vulnerability reports and Linux-related findings.

·         Perform Linux risk remediation and vulnerability mitigation activities.

·         Analyze aging Linux systems with unresolved vulnerabilities.

·         Work with existing Linux administrators to identify root causes of recurring issues.

·         Coordinate maintenance windows and required system reboots.

·         Assist with removing unsupported or unnecessary kernel versions.

·         Provide recommendations for remediation and execute approved solutions.

·         Navigate operational and application-owner dependencies that can delay remediation efforts.

Technical Environment

·         Red Hat/Linux server environment

·         Linux Satellite Server for patching and updates

·         Qualys vulnerability management

·         ThreatLocker and security tooling

·         Legacy Linux operating systems due to application dependencies

·         Kernel management and patch remediation activities

Required Skills

·         Strong Linux administration experience

·         Experience with vulnerability remediation and security compliance

·         Experience patching and maintaining enterprise Linux environments

·         Ability to troubleshoot operating system and kernel issues

·         Strong understanding of server lifecycle management

·         Ability to communicate with application owners and infrastructure teams

·         Senior-level Linux experience preferred; manager specifically emphasized not wanting a junior resource.
