Usability EHR Tester / Healthcare Systems

Location: Remote US-based only
Travel: Up to 2 trips per quarter to a California site
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday Friday
Duration: 2-year base term + two 1-year options

Position Overview

We are seeking Usability Testers with strong healthcare/EHR testing experience to support a large Electronic Health Record (EHR) implementation across California

The tester will evaluate the EHR from an end-user and clinical workflow perspective before formal User Acceptance Testing (UAT). This is a hands-on QA/testing role involving functional, integration, regression, usability, accessibility, and defect testing.

You will work closely with Business Solution Analysts (BSAs), SMEs, and end users to validate healthcare workflows, identify usability issues, document defects, and ensure issues are resolved before UAT and go-live.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform usability testing of EHR/healthcare applications from an end-user perspective.
  • Execute functional, integration, regression, and workflow testing.
  • Validate clinical and healthcare workflows within EHR systems.
  • Develop and execute test plans, test cases, test scripts, and test scenarios.
  • Identify, document, track, and retest software defects through the complete defect lifecycle.
  • Prepare clear defect reports and testing documentation.
  • Work with BSAs, SMEs, and end users to understand and validate business and clinical workflows.
  • Identify usability issues, workflow gaps, and potential user errors before formal UAT.
  • Support UAT preparation and execution.
  • Perform testing of EHR integrations such as pharmacy, laboratory, billing, and document management systems.
  • Support regression testing following application changes and fixes.
  • Participate in accessibility/ADA testing where applicable.
  • Support testing activities during implementation, go-live, and ongoing maintenance & operations.
  • Provide testing status, findings, risks, and defect updates to project stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree OR relevant professional certification. Additional relevant experience may substitute for education.
  • 1+ year of usability testing experience.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting testing activities for healthcare systems.
  • 5+ years of functional, integration, and regression testing experience.
  • 8+ years of defect lifecycle management experience.
  • 3+ years developing test plans, test cases, test scripts, and defect reports.
  • 3+ years documenting testing findings and defects.
  • Working knowledge of programming languages and/or development platforms.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication, documentation, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.

Preferred / Highly Desired Experience

  • 5+ years testing Electronic Health Record (EHR/EMR) systems.
  • Experience testing clinical workflows.
  • Experience testing EHR integrations with:
    • Pharmacy
    • Laboratory
    • Billing
    • Document management
  • Experience supporting implementations across multiple hospitals, facilities, or locations.
  • Accessibility / ADA testing experience.
  • Experience with automation frameworks or testing tools.
  • Experience with JIRA or other test/defect management tools.
  • Experience supporting UAT with BSAs, SMEs, clinicians, and end users.
  • Government or public-sector healthcare project experience is a plus.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must currently reside in the continental United States.
  • Must be willing to travel to California 2 trips per quarter.
  • Must be able to pass a Livescan background check.
  • Two professional supervisor/manager references are required. References must be from projects used to demonstrate the candidate's qualifications.
