This isn t a short-term gig. It s a 5-year commitment to managing enterprise database infrastructure for a state agency the kind of stable, long-term engagement senior DBAs look for.
We need a Database Manager who can lead, plan, supervise, and optimize someone equally comfortable presenting DBMS strategy to executives and mentoring junior support staff in the trenches.
What you ll own:
Manage & direct database development projects end-to-end
Plan & budget staff, data resources & infrastructure
Support application developers on data prep, load analysis, backup & recovery
Reallocate resources dynamically to maximize efficiency & benefits
Prepare & deliver presentations on DBMS concepts to stakeholders
Provide daily supervision & direction to database support staff
Monitor database performance & drive continuous efficiency improvements

Scope of Work: The purpose of this work order is to obtain resources to provide services and support for the MS
SQL Servers and Oracle/UNIX Linux database operations, maintenance, and mission critical
applications. In addition, all resources will support other client/server and web base systems, provide guidance
concerning application security, and give continual supportive information concerning best practices in planning,
designing, and implementing emerging database management technology solutions.
Must-haves:
Oracle DBA / Database Manager experience
SQL Server administration & management
Database project management & planning
Backup, recovery & load analysis expertise
Team supervision & staff leadership experience
Strong presentation & stakeholder communication skills
Local to Baltimore, MD area
Strong differentiators:
Maryland state government experience
Public sector / regulated environment background
Budget planning for database infrastructure
DBMS performance tuning at enterprise scale
Duration: 5 Years (2yr base + 3yr option) exceptional stability
