IT Technical Writer with Security Clearance

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking an IT Technical Writer to support a federal partner. This position is onsite in Newington, VA. This is a contract opportunity supporting mission-critical documentation and communications for secure defense programs. The IT Technical Writer will develop, refine, and maintain technical documentation supporting IT systems, cybersecurity initiatives, and operational processes. This role works closely with engineers, analysts, and military personnel to ensure documentation aligns with DoD standards and supports mission readiness. Responsibilities for the IT Technical Writer include:

• Develop and maintain technical documentation including user manuals, SOPs, and system guides
• Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise documentation for diverse audiences
• Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to gather and validate technical requirements
• Identify documentation gaps and implement improvements to enhance clarity and usability
• Ensure all documentation complies with DoD standards, including MIL-STD and Army style guidelines
• Manage document version control and lifecycle processes across systems and repositories
• Utilize tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, Adobe Acrobat, and SharePoint to produce deliverables Required Qualifications for the IT Technical Writer include:
• 5+ years of experience in technical writing within IT, cybersecurity, or defense environments
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, Adobe Acrobat, and SharePoint
• Experience with content management systems and document lifecycle management
• Familiarity with DoD/Army documentation standards and MIL-STD formats
• Working knowledge of IT systems, cybersecurity concepts, and network infrastructure
• Strong writing, editing, and formatting skills with attention to detail
• Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance Compensation for the IT Technical Writer includes:
• Salary Range: $100,000 - $115,000 based on experience
