Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Adyen Protect E-Commerce Fraud Consultant to provide immediate, temporary support following the implementation of Adyen as our new payment processor.
The consultant will be responsible for setting up, configuring, and optimizing fraud rules within Adyen Protect to ensure the platform is functioning properly and effectively mitigating e-commerce fraud. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with card-not-present fraud and direct, hands-on expertise using Adyen Protect or RevenueProtect.
This is an urgent engagement requiring someone who can quickly assess the current environment, identify potential gaps, and establish an effective fraud-prevention framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess the current Adyen implementation and fraud-prevention configuration.
- Configure and implement fraud rules, risk profiles, scoring thresholds, and related controls within Adyen Protect.
- Ensure fraud rules are operating correctly and aligned with the organization’s risk tolerance.
- Analyze e-commerce transaction activity to identify fraud patterns, vulnerabilities, and emerging risks.
- Review approval rates, declines, chargebacks, false positives, and other fraud-performance indicators.
- Adjust and optimize fraud rules to reduce fraudulent transactions while minimizing the impact on legitimate customers.
- Configure and manage block lists, trust lists, custom rules, and other relevant Adyen Protect functionality.
- Evaluate opportunities to use machine-learning rules, ShopperDNA, 3D Secure, and additional Adyen fraud-prevention capabilities.
- Troubleshoot issues involving fraud decisions, transaction reviews, or rule performance.
- Collaborate with internal e-commerce, payments, finance, loss-prevention, customer-service, and technology teams.
- Provide recommendations for ongoing fraud monitoring and system optimization.
- Document configurations, rule changes, findings, and operational procedures.
- Transfer knowledge to internal team members to support the environment following the engagement.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience in e-commerce and card-not-present fraud prevention.
- Direct, hands-on experience configuring and managing Adyen Protect or Adyen RevenueProtect.
- Demonstrated experience creating, testing, tuning, and optimizing fraud rules.
- Strong understanding of e-commerce payment processing and the transaction lifecycle.
- Experience analyzing fraud trends, chargebacks, decline rates, approval rates, and false positives.
- Knowledge of fraud scoring, risk thresholds, manual review processes, block lists, trust lists, and transaction-monitoring strategies.
- Familiarity with 3D Secure and other payment-authentication controls.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, quickly evaluate an existing environment, and make actionable recommendations.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Availability to begin an urgent engagement as soon as possible.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting a retail or high-volume consumer e-commerce organization.
- Experience implementing Adyen or supporting a newly launched Adyen environment.
- Familiarity with Adyen ShopperDNA, case management, machine-learning risk rules, and custom risk profiles.
- Experience balancing fraud prevention with customer conversion and payment-approval objectives.
- Knowledge of chargeback management, payment disputes, and fraud-reporting best practices.
Engagement Objectives
During the approximately 90-day engagement, the consultant will be expected to:
- Establish an effective set of fraud rules and risk controls within Adyen Protect.
- Confirm that the fraud-prevention environment is configured and functioning properly.
- Identify and remediate immediate fraud-related gaps or vulnerabilities.
- Optimize controls based on transaction performance and observed fraud patterns.
Provide documentation and recommendations that enable the internal team to manage and monitor the environment going forward
