Job Description

Role: SAP Project Manager
Duration: 6+ Months
Location: Remote (some travel possible during critical project lifecycle phases (e.g. testing, deployment))

Comments from our DE:
I strongly believe a capable Project Manager could excel in this position, but I want to remain transparent about the SAFe definition of the Product Owner role. I have attempted to blend these two considerations in the attached Job Description. A PM with some experience implementing SAP SupplyChain/Logistics capabilities would likely be a great fit . Regardless of the industry (e.g. Retail, A&D, Healthcare, Automotive).

Key Responsibilities

Backlog Management & Prioritization

Voice of the Customer: Represents end-user and stakeholder needs to maximize delivered value.

Bridge Role: Connects individual Agile Teams with Product Management, who handle broader vision and the Program Increment (PI) roadmap and deployment strategy.

Content Authority: Possesses decision-making authority at the team level to prioritize user stories, enablers, and team backlog items.

Maintain Team Backlog: Write, refine, and sequence user stories, acceptance criteria, and enabler work.

Define "What" and "Why": Collaborate with Product Management to break down large features into smaller, implementable stories for the team (leaving the "how" and "when" to the team).

Accept Work: Review and formally accept or reject completed user stories during iteration reviews to ensure definition of done (DoD) is met. Manage scope and change, and support relevant review boards.

Planning & Execution (Cadence)

Program Increment (PI) Planning: Prepare the team for PI planning, draft team PI objectives, and identify cross-team dependencies. Assisting in planning large-scale

PI events, tracking high-level milestones, and managing dependency maps across teams.

Risk and Impediment Escalation: Identifying macro-level risks, budget constraints, and compliance blocks that span multiple teams, then escalating them to Lean Portfolio Management or RTEs.

Iteration Planning & Execution: Lead and participate in daily stand-ups, iteration planning, refinement sessions, and team retrospectives.

PO Sync: Attend regular Product Owner sync meetings to coordinate scope, progress, and dependencies across the Agile Release Train (ART).

Stakeholder & Customer Collaboration

Gather Feedback: Conduct system demos, solicit user feedback, and translate market/customer insights into actionable backlog adjustments.

Align with Business Goals: Ensure day-to-day team output stays synchronized with enterprise and program-level objectives. Align regularly with Functional/Business counterparts to ensure requirements are met and process visions are realized.

Required Skills

Methodology: Deep understanding of SAFe principles, Lean-Agile mindset, Scrum, and JIRA/Kanban.

Subject Matter: Experience implementing SAP EWM preferred but not required.

Facilitation & Negotiation: Ability to align non-agile business sponsors with self-organizing agile teams. Coordinate dependencies cross-functionally. Manage interaction with various Centers of Excellence (e.g. Development, Integration, Data Conversion) to complete planned activities.

Tool Proficiency: Experience with scaling tools like JIRA, FocusedBuild/Solution Manager.
