Job Description

Power Systems Engineer

Position Overview
A global power and energy technology organization is seeking experienced Power Systems Engineers to join its Global Microgrids Solutions team. The position focuses on power-system modeling, simulation, analysis, and engineering for complex electrical infrastructure supporting utility-scale, industrial, renewable energy, microgrid, energy-storage, and data-center applications.

The successful candidate will serve as a technical subject matter expert supporting the design, validation, and deployment of advanced electrification solutions. The role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership and collaboration across regional and global engineering teams. Projects may include:

  • Utility-scale renewable energy integration
  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Microgrids
  • Data center electrical systems
  • Grid modernization
  • Industrial power systems
  • Advanced power electronics applications

Key Responsibilities

Power-System Studies
Conduct and lead detailed electrical system studies, including load-flow and voltage-profile studies, reactive-power capability and compensation studies, power-factor analysis, short-circuit and protection-coordination studies, and more.

Microgrid & Grid Integration
Develop and validate system-level models of complex microgrids, evaluate grid-connected, islanded, black-start, and transition operating conditions, support integration of renewable generation, BESS, reciprocating engines, gas turbines, and inverter-based resources, perform utility and ISO/RTO interconnection studies, and support compliance with applicable grid codes and standards.

Technical Leadership
Serve as a power-systems subject matter expert for engineering and customer projects, review power-system study assumptions, methodologies, models, and deliverables, provide technical oversight of external engineering consultants when required, support technical proposals, customer discussions, and engineering presentations, collaborate with regional and global engineering teams, and contribute to project execution, technical consulting, and development of advanced power-system solutions.

Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Power Systems, Power Electronics, or a closely related discipline
- 6+ years of industrial experience performing power-system studies and simulation for utility, industrial, renewable energy, microgrid, or data-center applications
- Hands-on experience with power-system modeling and analytical studies
- Experience modeling grid-forming and grid-following inverters
- Understanding of converter controls and electrical protection systems
- Experience with data-center electrical infrastructure
- Familiarity with AI and hyperscale data-center electrical architectures
- Experience with medium-voltage distribution systems
- Experience with backup-generation systems

Power-System Modeling Tools
Experience with one or more of the following is highly relevant:
- PSCAD
- PSS/E
- ETAP
- CYME
- EMTP-RV
- PSLF
- EasyPower
- MATLAB / Simulink

Preferred / Additional Experience
Experience in any of the following areas is highly valued:
- Battery Energy Storage Systems
- Grid-forming inverter controls
- Hardware-in-the-Loop testing
- Validation of EMT models using field measurements
- AI / hyperscale data-center power systems
- Utility protection and protection coordination
- HVDC systems
- FACTS devices
- STATCOM / SVC technologies

Ideal Candidate Profile
The strongest candidates will combine deep analytical power-systems expertise with hands-on modeling capability and experience applying that knowledge to complex electrical infrastructure. Candidates should be comfortable working across multidisciplinary engineering teams and translating detailed simulation and study results into practical system-level engineering decisions. This opportunity is particularly well suited to engineers with backgrounds spanning power-system studies, microgrids, renewable integration, BESS, inverter-based resources, utility interconnection, data centers, or advanced power electronics.
