Job Description

Senior Manager, SIOP & Order Management

Austin, Texas | On-site

Manufacturing | SIOP | MRP | BOM | Inventory | Order Management

Compensation: Up to approximately $150,000 base, depending on experience

This is not a role for someone who wants to run S&OP meetings and build dashboards from a distance.

We are looking for a hands-on manufacturing planning leader who understands what happens between customer demand, materials, inventory, capacity, production and the date ultimately promised to the customer.

You need to be comfortable in the data.

You also need to be comfortable on the manufacturing floor.

Our client manufactures highly configurable products primarily in a make-to-order environment. They are strengthening the operating foundation underneath SIOP: inventory discipline, MRP, BOMs, master data, capacity planning, order execution and reliable customer commitments.

The long-term opportunity is to build and mature a strong SIOP operating process.

The immediate job is to make the fundamentals work.

What You'll Own

You'll work across Sales, Manufacturing, Procurement, Engineering, Inventory, Warehouse, Finance, Business Systems and leadership to connect demand with what the business can actually build and deliver.

That includes:

  • Sustaining and improving MRP and the planning parameters behind it
  • Developing, validating and maintaining BOMs, routings and item-master data
  • Building inventory policies around safety stock, reorder points and preferred stocking levels
  • Driving SKU-level inventory optimization and excess-inventory burndown without creating service problems
  • Translating demand into realistic material, production and capacity requirements
  • Developing and improving rough-cut manufacturing and supplier-capacity planning
  • Supporting perpetual-inventory accuracy and planning discipline
  • Improving Order Management, order readiness, exception handling and customer-commitment visibility
  • Supporting NPI and product end-of-life planning
  • Working directly with Manufacturing and Engineering to reconcile what the ERP says should happen with what is actually happening on the floor
  • Personally analyzing and reconciling operating data in Excel
  • Eventually helping mature the broader SIOP cadence and operating model

What We're Looking For

You have significant manufacturing planning, materials, SIOP, supply-chain planning or related operating experience.

More importantly, you've actually done the work.

You understand MRP, BOMs, inventory, materials, capacity and production planning well enough to explain how they interact, not simply how they appear on a dashboard.

You've worked in a high-mix, configurable or make-to-order manufacturing environment and understand the planning complexity that comes with it.

You're strong in Excel and can start with raw data and a blank workbook, build the analysis yourself, validate the math and explain what it means.

You're comfortable working inside ERP/MRP systems. NetSuite experience is strongly preferred.

And you're willing to walk onto a manufacturing floor, learn how the product is actually assembled, talk with operators and determine whether the system reflects reality.

What We're NOT Looking For

This is probably not the right role if your SIOP experience is primarily:

  • Facilitating monthly meetings
  • Producing executive dashboards and presentations
  • Statistical demand forecasting without broader manufacturing ownership
  • Working entirely from ERP/BI reports without spending time in the operation
  • Managing analysts who perform the detailed work for you
  • Implementing a process and then handing it to someone else to sustain

We are also not looking for someone who walks into an operation and immediately tells everyone what they're doing wrong.

This role requires curiosity and humility.

You'll need to understand why the current process exists, learn from the people closest to the work, establish the facts and then lead change that actually sticks.

You'll Probably Recognize Yourself in This Role If...

You've inherited bad inventory data and figured out what was really happening.

You've found a BOM that didn't match the physical build.

You've dealt with MRP recommendations that didn't make sense and traced the problem back to the underlying parameters or master data.

You've worked through stockouts, supplier constraints, capacity bottlenecks or customer commitments that Operations couldn't realistically support.

You've built the Excel model yourself because the system couldn't answer the question.

And when the numbers didn't make sense, you went to the floor to find out why.

That's the experience we're looking for.

This is an on-site leadership role in Austin, Texas with significant visibility across the organization and direct impact on how the company plans, manufactures and delivers to its customers.
