Job Description

Position: Contracted Chief Information Officer (CIO) / Strategic IT Advisor
Duration: 3 years with extension Possible
Location: Rock Springs, Wyoming 
Client: Western Wyoming College
Work Arrangement: Please prioritize candidates who are comfortable supporting the College remotely and traveling/on-site to Rock Springs as required.
 
Job Description:
The proposed CIO will provide strategic technology leadership and advisory services to college leadership. 
 
Responsibilities may include:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive IT/technology strategy.
  • Align technology initiatives with the College's strategic goals.
  • Develop and improve IT governance and technology policies.
  • Assess the current IT infrastructure, systems, and technology environment.
  • Recommend improvements to IT organization and operations.
  • Provide oversight and guidance for major technology projects.
  • Assist with technology procurement and vendor management.
  • Provide recommendations related to IT budgets and resource allocation.
  • Support risk management and business continuity planning.
  • Provide executive-level technology reporting and consultation to College leadership.
  • Support digital transformation and modernization initiatives.
  • Develop technology roadmaps and strategic plans.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
  • Please look for candidates with strong CIO, CTO, IT Director, VP of IT, or senior technology leadership experience.
  • Higher education experience is highly preferred. Candidates who have worked with a college, university, community college, school system, or similar public-sector organization should receive priority.
The ideal candidate should have strong experience in:
  • IT strategic planning and technology roadmaps
  • IT governance
  • Infrastructure and systems assessment
  • Digital transformation
  • IT budgeting and resource planning
  • Vendor and technology procurement management
  • Cybersecurity/risk management oversight
  • Business continuity/disaster recovery planning
  • Enterprise technology projects
  • Executive and Board-level communication
  • Managing or advising IT organizations and teams
The College currently has approximately 510 employees, 2,850 students, 3 locations, and an internal IT staff of approximately 8. Their environment includes Microsoft 365 A5, Ellucian Colleague (on-premises/SQL), and Canvas LMS.
