This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to highly visible projects while working at the intersection of product design, merchandising, branding, and vendor management.
Role Summary
We are seeking a Product Design & Development Coordinator to support the creation and execution of branded merchandise collections across multiple product categories, including apparel, accessories, novelty items, keychains, plush products, and promotional merchandise. This role is ideal for a hands-on designer who enjoys both the creative and operational sides of product development.
The successful candidate will own the design process from concept through production handoff while managing development timelines, coordinating with suppliers, and ensuring products move efficiently through approvals and production milestones. This position requires a highly organized professional who can independently manage multiple projects while delivering creative, production-ready designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Create original designs and artwork for branded merchandise, including apparel graphics, accessories, novelty products, keychains, plush items, and promotional goods.
- Develop polished mockups, renderings, and presentation materials for internal stakeholders and external partner approvals.
- Translate brand guidelines, marketing objectives, and intellectual property assets into production-ready product concepts.
- Manage product development timelines and maintain accurate tracking across multiple active SKUs and product categories.
- Coordinate vendor and factory communications regarding samples, revisions, approvals, production schedules, and delivery deadlines.
- Review samples and provide clear feedback to suppliers to ensure product quality and brand alignment.
- Maintain technical specifications, tech packs, artwork files, and development documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
- Identify potential risks, bottlenecks, or production delays and proactively implement solutions.
- Contribute process improvements that enhance product development efficiency and cross-functional communication.
Key Requirements
- 3-5+ years of experience in product design, merchandising, product development, or a related field.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating product design work across merchandise categories such as apparel, accessories, promotional products, or consumer goods.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
- Experience creating products from concept as well as updating and refining existing merchandise designs.
- Proven ability to manage multiple product lines, SKUs, timelines, and vendor relationships simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, print methods, materials, and production considerations across apparel and accessory categories.
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets experience for product tracking, milestone management, and development coordination.
- Experience presenting creative concepts and design solutions to stakeholders, leadership teams, clients, or external partners.
- Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting branded merchandise, promotional products, retail merchandise, or consumer product programs.
- Background working with licensed merchandise, intellectual property, brand partnerships, or licensing approvals.
- Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems or product development tracking platforms.
- Experience collaborating directly with domestic or international factories and manufacturing partners.
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Product Design, Industrial Design, Fashion Design, or a related field; equivalent hands-on experience will also be considered.
- Experience mentoring junior designers or coordinating work across creative teams.
Why Join This Opportunity?
This role offers the opportunity to make a visible impact on major brand initiatives while building products that customers will use and enjoy. You'll have creative ownership over merchandise development, exposure to large-scale branding efforts, and the flexibility of a part-time schedule. The position is ideal for someone who loves both design and execution and wants to see their work move from concept to finished product.
