Quick Overview
Job Description
Mechanical Engineer - Battery Pack Development
Location: Novi, MI – 100% On-Site
Type: 6 month contract-to-hire
Level: Mid-Level through Lead/Senior opportunities
About the Opportunity
Our client, a growing advanced battery technology company, is expanding its mechanical engineering team to support the development of next-generation battery systems across automotive and advanced mobility applications.
We are looking for hands-on Mechanical Engineers who enjoy owning products and solving problems across the full development lifecycle. Rather than focusing on one narrow piece of the engineering process, you’ll have the opportunity to work across design, component development, supplier collaboration, prototyping, assembly, testing, validation, and manufacturing.
Multiple openings are available, with opportunities ranging from experienced Mechanical Engineers to senior/lead-level engineers with deeper high-voltage battery pack expertise.
What You’ll Do
- Own mechanical components and subsystems through design, development, prototype, and validation
- Personally create and modify 3D CAD models and detailed mechanical designs
- Design structures, enclosures, mounting systems, interfaces, and other mechanical hardware
- Evaluate components and make design decisions around performance, manufacturability, reliability, and cost
- Work directly with suppliers and manufacturing partners on component development and sourcing
- Support hands-on prototype builds, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting
- Perform root cause analysis and drive engineering problems through resolution
- Develop engineering drawings and support GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability
- Collaborate with electrical, systems, thermal, manufacturing, validation, and supply chain teams
- Independently take ownership of complex technical problems and see them through completion
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- Hands-on mechanical design and product development experience
- Strong 3D CAD experience; SolidWorks is highly preferred, with comparable CAD platforms considered
- Experience personally creating and modifying mechanical designs
- Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals and manufacturability
- Experience working across multiple stages of the product development lifecycle
- Hands-on exposure to prototypes, hardware, assembly, testing, and/or validation
- Ability to independently solve technical problems with limited direction
- Experience collaborating with suppliers, vendors, or manufacturing teams
Preferred Experience
Experience in any of the following areas is highly valuable:
- Battery packs, modules, EVs, electrification, or energy storage
- High-voltage battery systems
- Structural or enclosure design
- Automotive body structures
- Mounting, fasteners, adhesives, routing, or welding
- Sheet metal, castings, stampings, extrusions, plastics, or sealing systems
- Bus bars, cooling systems, or power electronics packaging
- Prototype development and product validation
- Root cause analysis and troubleshooting
- Automotive, defense, aerospace, or advanced product development
For senior/lead-level candidates, direct high-voltage battery pack development experience and the ability to independently lead complex technical work are especially valuable.
Who Thrives in This Environment
The strongest engineers for this team enjoy being hands-on and taking ownership. You’ll do well if you are comfortable with ambiguity, changing priorities, and solving problems that don't always come with a predefined answer.
This is a great environment for someone who wants to expand beyond a highly specialized engineering function and have direct involvement in how a product is designed, built, tested, and improved.
