Description

Russ Hadick & Associates, Inc has exclusively partnerened with a client in the Dayton area seeking a hands-on Field Service and Automation Technician to install, commission, troubleshoot, repair, and support custom industrial automation systems at customer facilities and in their production shop.
This role requires a strong industrial electrical background, with solid mechanical aptitude a strong plus (or vice versa), and the ability to work with PLC-controlled equipment, robotics, welding systems, safety systems, pneumatics, and other automation technologies.

Job Responsibilities

  • Travel of 40%-50% os required to install, commission, troubleshoot, repair, modify, and support industrial automation systems
  • Diagnose electrical, controls, robotic, welding, mechanical, pneumatic, safety, communication, and process-related issues.
  • Perform warranty service, emergency repairs, planned maintenance, upgrades, and system modifications.
  • Provide customer support by phone, email, remote connection, and on-site service.
  • Troubleshoot control panels, machine wiring, motors, sensors, safety circuits, industrial I/O, VFDs, servo systems, and communication networks.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, pneumatic diagrams, PLC programs, robot programs, and equipment manuals.
  • Connect to PLCs and HMIs to monitor equipment, identify faults, support debugging, and make basic authorized changes.
  • Set up, recover, operate, and troubleshoot industrial robots and cobots.
  • Support OTC, NACHI, FANUC, Yaskawa, Universal Robots, and other industrial robot platforms.
  • Troubleshoot welding power sources, wire feeders, torches, weld interfaces, positioners, and related welding automation equipment.
  • Operate automated equipment in manual, setup, recovery, and automatic modes.
  • Support machine installation, testing, runoff, customer training, and production launch.
  • Work directly in production when not assigned to field service.
  • Perform machine wiring, device installation, cable routing, termination, labeling, checkout, and I/O verification.
  • Assist with electrical panel assembly, mechanical assembly, pneumatics, guarding, tooling, and general machine integration.
  • Maintain accurate service reports, time records, expense reports, redlines, and punch-list documentation.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Technical degree, apprenticeship, military technical training, or equivalent hands-on industrial experience.
  • Five or more years of experience in industrial automation, electrical assembly, machine building, equipment service, controls, maintenance, or a related field.
  • Strong industrial electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot industrial control systems.
  • Working knowledge of PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to perform mechanical work as needed.
  • Ability to safely operate, test, and troubleshoot automated equipment.
  • Strong customer communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with custom automation, robotic cells, welding cells, assembly systems, test equipment, or machine integration.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi and Keyence PLCs and HMIs.
  • Experience with OTC, NACHI, FANUC, Yaskawa, Universal Robots, or similar robot platforms.
  • Experience with robotic welding equipment, industrial networks, servo systems, safety PLCs, or machine vision.
  • Experience making basic PLC, HMI, or robot program changes
