About the Role

The Project Manager is responsible for the effective planning, coordination and management of projects from initial award through to successful completion, ensuring that all works are delivered in accordance with customer requirements, contractual obligations, company policies and procedures.

The role is responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and within agreed budgets, whilst maintaining a high standard of customer service and communication throughout.

As a key representative of the Company, the Project Manager is expected to promote a professional, proactive and safety-conscious working environment, building strong relationships with customers, suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams. The role plays an important part in protecting and enhancing the Company’s reputation for safe, reliable and professional project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the planning and project management of all project activities from contract award to completion, ensuring that projects are successfully delivered in terms of managing contract adherence, permitting requirements, programmes, method statements, budgets and HSEQ requirements.
  • To act as the primary contact for customers during the executional phase of projects and communicate with them in a timely manner.
  • To manage internal project kick off meetings to communicate and co-ordinate key project information to the engineering and operational departments.
  • To attend customer visits and/or site visits with the relevant support dept. competencies to measure and record specific information relevant to the successful execution of the project, ensuring this is followed through internally and incorporated into the RAMS document.
  • To conduct visits to third party operational sites (e.g. ports) to conduct facility and route surveys and ensure all necessary requirements are recorded and documented.
  • Co-ordinate our internal teams to ensure the timely submission of necessary permits (e.g. transportation and marine) to facilitate the delivery of a project.
  • Co-ordinate our internal teams to ensure the timely production of HSEQ Documentation including risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
  • Co-ordinate our internal teams to ensure activities are compliant with the Allely’s agreed scope and programme, with timely and suitable communication of any required changes.
  • To manage project costs within the budget allocated, while striving to maintain maximum profit margin, any discrepancies or unforeseen changes need to be agreed with the Head of Project Delivery, then presented to and agreed with the Client prior to execution.
  • To be able to identify the opportunity for revenue and profitability growth while managing client expectations.
  • To prepare and present project financial assessments and forecasts on a monthly basis to the Head of Project Delivery and Finance Teams.
  • To ensure that all activities meet with the external or customers’ business standards for quality management, health and safety, environmental policies and local laws to which the business finds itself operating under.
  • To maintain client relationships whilst ensuring delivery of high levels of customer service.
  • To communicate and interact with all levels of staff, contractors and management.
  • Attend and manage both internal and external meetings.
  • To perform other duties at certain times as and when required, and as directed by the Head of Project Delivery. All additional responsibilities listed are subject to having received the correct training and holding valid certificates where applicable.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in the commercial and operational management of projects within the Specialist Transport, Heavy Haulage and/or Heavy Lifting sectors.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, prioritising workload effectively to meet deadlines and customer requirements.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships and communicate effectively with colleagues, customers, suppliers and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to contribute positively to a collaborative team environment while taking ownership and accountability for individual responsibilities.
  • Professional, approachable and confident in dealing with customers and colleagues.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to respond effectively to changing project requirements and priorities.
  • Reliable, proactive and committed to delivering a high standard of work.
  • Strong commercial awareness with an understanding of project costs, budgets, variations and financial performance.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving project issues, risks and challenges.

Required Skills

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate confidently with customers, colleagues and senior management.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently, using initiative to identify and address issues without unnecessary supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and a structured approach to project administration and documentation.
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to understand and interpret project documentation, programmes, commercial information and technical requirements.
