Job Description: Enterprise Observability & Monitoring Lead Digital & Technology Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane Hybrid: Minimum 3 days per week on-site Drive visibility. Improve resilience. St Vincent's Health Australia is seeking an experienced Enterprise Observability & Monitoring Lead to uplift and lead monitoring capability across a complex national healthcare environment.
This is a unique opportunity to build a true enterprise observability capability - improving how we detect, respond to, and understand service impacts across technology that directly supports patient and resident care. You will play a key role in ensuring our digital environment is stable, visible, and responsive, enabling teams to act faster during incidents and clearly understand which services are impacted when disruptions occur.
The opportunity This role sits within our Service Management Platform function, working closely with Major Incident Management and technical teams to improve how monitoring supports real operational outcomes. You will:
- Build and uplift enterprise monitoring capability across infrastructure, networks, cloud, and applications
- Improve incident response, enabling faster detection and resolution of issues
- Provide clear visibility of service impacts, system health, and outages
- Lead the shift from basic monitoring to service-level and application observability
- Deliver insights that help teams make better decisions during incidents
- Define and deliver the enterprise observability and monitoring roadmap
- Own and optimise monitoring platforms (including PRTG and associated toolsets)
- Ensure monitoring signals feed into ITSM for incident management and response
- Improve alert quality, signal-to-noise ratio, and operational usefulness
- Develop dashboards and reporting that provide meaningful service insights
- Enable teams to better understand and respond to system degradation and outages
- Establish consistent monitoring standards across technology domains
- Provide training and uplift capability across engineering and operational teams
- You are an experienced technical leader who understands that monitoring is not just tooling - it's about operational visibility, service reliability, and outcomes.
- Experience in monitoring, observability, infrastructure operations, or service reliability
- Experience working across enterprise-scale environments and multiple monitoring platforms
- Hands-on experience with tools such as PRTG, Azure Monitor, ThousandEyes, or similar
- Strong understanding of incident management and ITSM practices
- Experience designing alerts, dashboards, and monitoring frameworks
- Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis capability
- Ability to work across teams and drive capability uplift and adoption
Nice to have: Exposure to application monitoring, synthetic monitoring, or observability concepts (metrics, logs, traces) Experience in healthcare or other highly regulated environments
