  • Long-term career progression within a global CNC machine tool manufacturer
Company Profile

A specialist manufacturer and UK & Ireland hub for advanced CNC Sliding Head and MillTurn turning centres, supporting machine sales, applications engineering, service, spares and customer training.

Backed by a global engineering group, the business continues to invest heavily in next-generation CNC turning technology, automation-ready platforms and high-level technical support.

Customers operate across Aerospace, Medical, Automotive, Defence, Energy and Precision Engineering, making this an excellent opportunity to work with some of the UK's leading manufacturers.

Unlike many Applications Engineering roles, this position is predominantly based at the company's Brierley Hill Applications Centre, where engineers prepare customer machining projects, prove out applications and support machine demonstrations before installation.

Job Profile

As an Internal CNC Applications Engineer, you will play a key role in preparing customer machining applications prior to machine delivery.

Working primarily from the Dudley facility, you will receive customer drawings and component information before programming, setting and proving out machining processes on advanced CNC Sliding Head and MillTurn turning centres.

This is a highly practical, hands-on engineering role where your machining knowledge is far more important than sales or customer presentation skills.

The position would suit either:

  • An experienced CNC Programmer looking to move into an office-based Applications Engineering role with significantly less travel, or
  • A talented CNC Programmer Setter Operator or CNC Technician looking to take the next step in their engineering career within a machine tool manufacturer.

Approximately 80-90% of your time will be spent at the Brierley Hill facility, with only occasional visits to the Bushey office or customer sites when required.

Duties
  • Program, set and prove out customer components from engineering drawings
  • Develop machining strategies for complex precision components
  • Prepare CNC programs for customer machine acceptance and demonstrations
  • Optimise tooling, cutting data, workholding and machining cycles
  • Carry out machine set-ups and prove-outs on advanced CNC Sliding Head and MillTurn turning centres
  • Produce process documentation and machining notes
  • Support machine demonstrations when required
  • Assist internal Applications and Technical teams
  • Provide occasional customer support during machine installations or project handovers
  • Travel occasionally to the Bushey office or customer sites as business needs require
Skills & Experience
  • Previous experience as a CNC Programmer Setter Operator, CNC Turner or CNC Applications Engineer
  • Strong CNC Programming experience directly at the machine control
  • Experience setting and proving out new components from engineering drawings
  • Background machining complex precision components
  • Good understanding of tooling, workholding, cutting data and process optimisation
  • Sliding Head, Twin Spindle, Twin Turret or MillTurn experience would be highly advantageous
  • Practical problem-solving approach with excellent attention to detail
  • Comfortable working within a collaborative engineering environment
  • Full UK Driving Licence
Education / Qualifications
  • Engineering Apprenticeship preferred
  • NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent Engineering qualifications advantageous
  • Time-served CNC Machinists also encouraged to apply
Hours of Work
  • Monday to Friday
  • Standard office hours
  • Predominantly based at the Brierley Hill Applications Centre
  • Occasional travel to Bushey or customer sites when required
Why Apply?

This is an excellent opportunity to move away from the demands of a field-based Applications Engineer role while remaining heavily involved in advanced CNC machining technology.

You'll work on challenging customer projects, developing machining processes on some of the industry's most advanced CNC Sliding Head and MillTurn machines without spending your week travelling across the UK.

Whether you're an experienced Applications Engineer looking for greater work-life balance or an ambitious CNC Programmer ready to progress into machine tool applications, this role offers outstanding long-term career prospects within a highly respected global manufacturer.
