Job description

Job Role- Senior Macro Conversion Engineer

Location- Remote

Hiring Mode- Full-time

Role Summary

Serve as primary technical lead responsible for reverse engineering current macros and convert this to Rocket terminal emulator macros / IBM PCOMM-based automation solutions while preserving business functionality, performance, and output integrity.

Key Responsibilities

Macro Analysis and Conversion

  • Analyze Rocket macro scripts and workflows.
  • Reverse engineer business logic and process dependencies.
  • Convert Rocket macros using:
    • VBA
    • VBScript
    • PowerShell
    • PCOMM HACL Automation
    • EHLLAPI Automation
    • COM Automation Solutions

Mainframe Automation Development

  • Automate:
    • Host navigation
    • Screen recognition
    • Protected/unprotected fields
    • Function key processing
    • File transfers
    • Multi-session operations
    • Batch processing

Reliability Engineering

  • Replace hard-coded delays with:
    • Screen-ready checks
    • Cursor-position validation
    • Host synchronization techniques
    • Field readiness validation
  • Implement:
    • Logging
    • Error handling
    • Retry mechanisms
    • Recovery workflows

Documentation

  • Create design documentation.
  • Generate macro mapping documents.
  • Support operational runbook development.

Required Technical Skills

Mainframe & Terminal Emulation

  • 10+ years experience with:
    • IBM 3270
    • IBM 5250
    • Terminal emulation platforms
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Host sessions
    • Presentation spaces
    • Screen attributes
    • AID keys
    • Keyboard mappings

PCOMM Automation

Strong experience in:

  • IBM Personal Communications (PCOMM)
  • EHLLAPI
  • HACL
  • COM Automation
  • Session profile management
  • File transfer configuration

Programming Languages

Advanced proficiency in:

  • VBA
  • VBScript

Preferred:

  • PowerShell
  • Python
  • C#
  • Java
