Job Description

NHS Band 6 Salary:    £39,959 - £48,117 per annum

Contract Type:  Temporary for 12 months

Hours Per Week:   Full Time, 37.5 hrs

To provide an efficient, comprehensive and high-quality diagnostic service that will include performing Neurophysiological procedures (EEG, CTS screening and Visual Evoked Potentials) the majority to be performed without direct supervision. Patients of all ages are referred from a wide range specialities with diverse medical conditions, including those with learning difficulties and mental health disorders. To participate in the supervision, training and development of junior staff and ensure a high level of professional standards are maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a diagnostic neurophysiology service in both dedicated and non-dedicated environment.
  • Perform EEG recordings, employing standard techniques without direct supervision.
  • Perform portable EEG’s in technically challenging areas such as ITU & NNU.
  • Perform Ambulatory (24 Hour) EEG recordings.
  • Perform Nerve Conduction Studies for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome independently.
  • Perform multi-modal (VEP,BSAEP & SEP) Evoked Potential studies.
  • Undertake a professional interest in a specialist area of Clinical Neurophysiology delivery.
  • Responsible for taking appropriate action during investigations if serious abnormalities are identified.
  • Undertakes interpretation and reporting in a timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively on a day-to-day basis to ensure an efficient service

Essential

  • BSc in relevant science subject and/or be completing MSc.
  • To have followed or be following the National STP in Neurophysiology.

Desirable

  • MSc in Clinical Physiology (Neurophysiology).

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in Neurophysiology with documented evidence of practice.

Desirable

  • ANS Professional examination in either EEG or NCS.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Competently perform EEG,NCS and EP diagnostic testing.
  • Demonstrate good IT skills on a range of software.

Desirable

  • Use of hospital systems: Minestrone, EPRO, Patient Centre etc.
