Job description

Job Title: Credit Deal Desk Consultant – Credit Deal Economics Modeling
Location: Oakland, CA — Onsite, 5 days per week
Employment Type: Contract
Duration: 6 months
Experience: 7+ years

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Credit Deal Desk Consultant for a leading U.S. fintech and payments platform. The consultant will design and deliver a reusable financial model to evaluate the economics and profitability of credit card and lending programs.

The model will generate segment-level and deal-level P&Ls, allocating revenue, costs and returns across four parties: the platform, program partner, issuing bank and balance sheet/capital provider.

This role will work closely with credit risk, finance and go-to-market pricing teams to validate assumptions and deliver a documented framework that internal teams can independently use for future deals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build an advanced Excel credit deal economics model that adapts to different customer segments, programs and product types.
  • Develop deal-level P&Ls allocating economics across the platform, program partner, issuing bank and capital provider.
  • Model and document key assumptions, including:
    • Customer acquisition cost per booked account.
    • KYB/KYC and underwriting costs.
    • Receivables balances and cash flows.
    • Segment-level loss curves, revolve rates and payment rates.
    • Cost of funds, capital costs and required capital-provider returns.
    • Ongoing servicing and operational costs.
    • APR, fees, interchange, partner bounties and revenue-sharing arrangements.
  • Prepare segment-level asset cash flows and P&Ls suitable for capital markets and investor due diligence.
  • Collaborate with credit risk, finance and pricing stakeholders to validate assumptions, scenarios and model outputs.
  • Deliver model documentation, walkthroughs and knowledge transfer so internal teams can evaluate future deals independently.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in credit risk, lending finance, structured finance, deal desk or pricing roles within a bank, card issuer, fintech or advisory firm.
  • Hands-on experience building credit deal economics, unit economics or profitability models.
  • Strong understanding of credit card or lending program economics, including APR, fees, interchange, partner bounties and revenue-sharing structures.
  • Experience modeling receivables, loss curves, revolve rates, payment rates and cost of funds/capital.
  • Advanced Excel financial modeling skills, with a focus on accurate, well-documented and reusable models.
  • Experience preparing financial models and supporting materials for investors or capital-provider due diligence.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with senior finance, risk and pricing stakeholders.
  • Availability to work onsite in Oakland, CA, five days per week.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with card issuing, embedded finance, Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) or bank-partnership programs.
  • Exposure to forward-flow arrangements, warehouse facilities or other capital markets funding structures.
  • Familiarity with Python, SQL or BI tools for data analysis and assumption development.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics or a related field.
  • MBA, CFA or FRM credentials are a plus.
