We have an immediate opportunity for a Senior Production CAE Analyst with one of our clients in Troy, MI.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in plastic injection molding simulation, Autodesk Moldflow, Moldex3D, CAE analysis, meshing, and automotive plastic components.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Sr. Production CAE Analyst develops and completes process simulation from initiation to completion of injection molded, thermoplastic, automotive components. Generally completes the following duties and responsibilities with the support of senior engineering personnel and/or engineering management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support current and future manufacturing programs with filling, packing, cooling and warpage analysis utilizing Autodesk Moldflow and/or Moldex3D software.
• Consult and collaborate with engineering, tooling and manufacturing personnel to optimize part design, tool design and processing windows of injection molded parts.
• Coordinate and develop the complete analysis process by determining appropriate techniques, formulating the analysis plan, and gathering data relating to material properties, gating feasibility, cavitation and dimensional/cosmetic requirements of the part.
• Maintain established internal standards for part mesh quality, gating and cooling system model quality, root cause analysis, results evaluation and reporting.
• Complete tasks and resolve issues to ensure compliance with program deliverables.
• Contribute to the development of project timing.
• Maintain a library of completed project reports and documentation.
• Perform root cause analysis and make recommendations to improve the dimensional stability and/or cosmetic appearance of injection molded parts.
• Develop and maintain professional working and business relationships with key customer engineering contacts.
• Assist program teams in developing CAE quotes and preparing technical presentations as required.
• Ensure program teams understand Moldflow/Moldex3D analysis input requirements.
• Apply knowledge of CAE structural analysis and understand the effects of fiber orientation, residual stresses and weld lines on the structural integrity of plastic parts.
• Continue to pursue higher levels of training and certification in Autodesk Moldflow and related CAE technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience / Special Knowledge / Skills:

• 8+ years of experience working with and manipulating meshed parts/components.
• Strong CAE background using Autodesk Moldflow, Moldex3D, HyperMesh, or other pre-processing software.
• Strong plastics and plastic injection molding background.
• Experience with filling, packing, cooling and warpage simulation.
• Experience with plastic injection molding part simulation and process optimization.
• Knowledge of processing techniques for thermoplastics and thermosets.
• Experience managing tooling programs.
• Associate, Professional, or Expert-level Autodesk Moldflow certification is preferred.
• Ability to perform part design optimization, tooling tolerance analysis, material processing analysis and DOE.
• Experience with gating, cooling systems, material properties, cavitation and dimensional/cosmetic analysis.
• Strong understanding of fiber orientation, residual stress and weld-line effects on plastic components.
• Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
• Automotive component experience is highly preferred.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint for technical reports and presentations.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet project deadlines.
