Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

This Engineering Technician Supervisor position is located in Shawnee, KS. This position will be responsible for mentoring the Engineering Technicians in the KC Regional Materials Lab regarding Prestressed and Precast Concrete Structural Fabrication and will assist in training new CWIs at Fabrication shops. This position will also sample, inspect, test, review, and report on a variety of materials for maintenance and construction projects, using a variety of specialized methods, which are of a technical nature, involving knowledge and experience. This helps guarantee the high quality of materials to be used for KDOT projects.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Inspection, sampling, and testing of materials used in KDOT construction and maintenance projects.
  • Assist the Regional Materials Lab Manager in all office matters in the event of the Engineer's absence and supervise office personnel.
  • Provide expertise and mentors KDOT's Regional Lab Engineering Technicians and partners.
  • Oversee CWI consultant contractors performing inspections at out-of-state fabrication shops for KDOT.
  • Inspection and/or testing of structural steel and metal fabrication.
  • Inspection, testing and/or sampling of other project related materials, including plain and epoxy coated reinforcing steel,concrete, and corrugated metal pipe, fencing materials, cement, painted products, precast concrete products, fasteners, non-structural fabricated items, and galvanized products:

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Five years of experience in engineering technical support.
  • Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered.
  • Certified Welder Inspection (CWI) certification within six months of hire.
  • American Segmental Bridge Institute (ASBI) Grouting Training Certificate within six months of hire.
  • American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Field Tester Certificate and Hardened Concrete Properties Certification within six months of hire.
  • Valid Driver's License at time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10 years of experience in structural materials fabrication or inspection.

Post-Offer/Pre-employment Requirements:
  • This position is subject to pre-employment physical capacity testing. The selected candidate will be required to pass the screening as a condition of employment.
