Position Overview:
The IT E-Commerce Retail Project Manager is responsible for leading complex technology initiatives that support and enhance the organization''s e-commerce and digital retail platforms. This role manages projects across e-commerce, digital commerce, retail technology, customer experience, payments, order management, merchandising, fulfillment, integrations, and enterprise systems.
The Project Manager will work closely with business stakeholders, product teams, technology teams, vendors, third-party partners, and executive leadership to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, within scope, and in alignment with business objectives.
The ideal candidate combines strong project management capabilities with a solid understanding of e-commerce, retail operations, digital platforms, and IT delivery methodologies.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Leadership & Delivery
- Lead multiple concurrent IT and e-commerce projects from initiation through implementation and post-production stabilization.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, schedules, milestones, dependencies, resource plans, and budgets.
- Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, success criteria, and acceptance criteria.
- Manage project priorities and coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure successful delivery.
- Track project progress against approved baselines and communicate status to stakeholders and executive leadership.
- Identify project risks, issues, dependencies, and constraints and develop appropriate mitigation and remediation plans.
- Manage project change requests, scope changes, timelines, and impacts to cost and resources.
- Drive project recovery and turnaround activities when projects are delayed or experiencing delivery challenges.
- Ensure appropriate project governance, documentation, approvals, and controls are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
E-Commerce & Digital Retail
- Manage technology projects supporting e-commerce and digital retail platforms.
- Lead initiatives involving:
- E-commerce websites and mobile applications
- Digital customer experience
- Product catalog and merchandising
- Shopping cart and checkout
- Pricing and promotions
- Search and personalization
- Customer accounts and loyalty
- Payment processing
- Order management
- Inventory availability
- Shipping and fulfillment
- Buy Online, Pick Up In Store (BOPIS)
- Curbside and store fulfillment
- Returns and refunds
- Customer service integrations
- Coordinate integration between e-commerce platforms and enterprise systems such as ERP, POS, OMS, WMS, CRM, PIM, payment gateways, tax systems, and third-party applications.
- Partner with digital product teams to deliver enhancements that improve conversion, customer experience, operational efficiency, and revenue.
- Support omnichannel retail initiatives connecting digital and physical store experiences.
Technology & Integration Management
- Work closely with application development, architecture, infrastructure, cybersecurity, data, QA, DevOps, and support teams.
- Coordinate API, middleware, batch, data, and system integration activities.
- Ensure technical dependencies are identified and incorporated into project schedules.
- Coordinate environments, releases, testing, deployments, and production readiness.
- Ensure technical teams have clear requirements, priorities, timelines, and dependencies.
- Partner with enterprise architects and technical leads to ensure solutions align with enterprise standards.
Agile & Project Management
- Manage projects using Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, or hybrid delivery methodologies.
- Facilitate project ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, demonstrations, retrospectives, and release planning as appropriate.
- Work with Product Owners and Business Analysts to prioritize requirements and manage product backlogs.
- Establish project KPIs and delivery metrics.
- Monitor velocity, burn-down/burn-up metrics, milestones, defects, risks, and dependencies.
- Ensure business and technical teams remain aligned throughout delivery.
Business & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary project contact for business and technology stakeholders.
- Translate business objectives into actionable technology delivery plans.
- Facilitate communication between business teams, IT teams, vendors, and third-party partners.
- Manage expectations across multiple stakeholder groups.
- Conduct executive-level status meetings and provide concise reporting on project health.
- Escalate critical risks and decisions requiring leadership intervention.
- Build strong relationships with merchandising, marketing, operations, finance, supply chain, store operations, digital, and IT leadership.
Vendor & Partner Management
- Manage third-party technology vendors, consultants, system integrators, and service providers.
- Coordinate vendor deliverables, schedules, dependencies, and contractual obligations.
- Review vendor project plans, status reports, risks, and deliverables.
- Ensure vendor performance meets project expectations and organizational standards.
- Coordinate issue resolution and escalation with external partners.
Testing & Implementation
- Lead planning and coordination of system integration testing, user acceptance testing, performance testing, security testing, and regression testing.
- Establish test schedules, entry/exit criteria, defect management processes, and implementation readiness requirements.
- Coordinate business and IT resources during UAT.
- Develop and maintain implementation, deployment, cutover, and rollback plans.
- Coordinate go-live activities and post-production support.
- Lead project stabilization and transition to production support teams.
Risk, Issue & Dependency Management
- Establish and maintain project RAID logs.
- Proactively identify technical, operational, financial, resource, vendor, and business risks.
- Develop mitigation and contingency plans.
- Manage cross-project dependencies and critical path activities.
- Drive timely resolution of project issues.
- Escalate unresolved issues appropriately.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor''s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of IT project management experience, preferably within retail, e-commerce, digital commerce, or consumer-facing organizations.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex technology projects involving multiple business and technical teams.
- Strong understanding of e-commerce and retail technology ecosystems.
- Experience managing projects from requirements through implementation and production stabilization.
- Strong experience with project planning, budgeting, resource management, risk management, issue management, and executive reporting.
- Experience working with Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, or hybrid methodologies.
- Strong understanding of SDLC and software development processes.
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP, PMI-ACP, Scrum Master, SAFe, or similar certification.
- Experience with large-scale retail or enterprise e-commerce implementations.
- Experience with platforms such as Shopify, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Adobe Commerce/Magento, SAP Commerce, Oracle Commerce, or similar platforms.
- Experience with OMS, POS, ERP, WMS, CRM, PIM, payment, tax, and fulfillment systems.
- Experience with API and enterprise integration projects.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, automated testing, and modern software delivery practices.
- Experience working with offshore/onshore development and QA teams.
- Experience with retail stores, omnichannel commerce, and store technology.
