We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented Teacher of English to join our dedicated English department. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire a love of language and literature while delivering engaging and challenging lessons that enable students to achieve their full academic potential.
You will teach English across a range of age groups and abilities, including GCSE and, where appropriate, A Level. Working closely with colleagues, you will contribute to the development of a dynamic curriculum, promote high standards of teaching and learning, and support students to become confident readers, writers and critical thinkers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Teaching high-quality English Language and Literature lessons across Key Stages 3, 4 and, where applicable, Key Stage 5.
- Creating engaging and inclusive learning experiences that challenge and inspire students.
- Monitoring progress and providing effective feedback to help students achieve excellent outcomes.
- Supporting examination success while fostering a genuine enjoyment of English beyond the classroom.
- Contributing to curriculum development, assessment and departmental improvement initiatives.
- Promoting high standards of behaviour, attendance and student engagement.
- Supporting the pastoral development and wellbeing of students.
- Contributing to the wider life of the school through enrichment activities, clubs, trips and events.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues, parents and external professionals to support student achievement.
- Upholding the highest standards of safeguarding and student welfare.
About You
You will be a passionate and knowledgeable English teacher who is committed to delivering outstanding learning experiences and helping every student realise their potential. Whether you are an experienced practitioner or an ambitious early-career teacher, you will bring enthusiasm, creativity and a genuine love of your subject.
We would love to hear from candidates who have:
- A degree in English or a related subject.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching English in a secondary school setting.
- The ability to teach English Language and Literature to GCSE level, with A Level teaching experience desirable.
- Strong subject knowledge and a passion for developing students' literacy, communication and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent classroom practice, with the ability to engage and motivate learners of varying abilities.
- Effective assessment and feedback skills that support student progress and achievement.
- Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- A collaborative approach and a commitment to working as part of a successful team.
- High expectations of students and a commitment to raising aspirations and outcomes.
- A willingness to contribute to the wider life of the school through enrichment and extracurricular activities.
- A strong commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and the wellbeing of every student.
