Job Description

Test & Validation Engineer MEMS Devices

Location: Manchester, UK
Salary: Competitive

An exciting opportunity for a Test & Validation Engineer to join an innovative deep-tech organisation developing next-generation MEMS-based spectrometer technology for high-performance sensing applications. Working across NIR, MIR and Raman spectroscopy, you will be responsible for testing and characterising prototype and commercial systems, developing robust validation methodologies and using data to drive product development. This is a highly multidisciplinary role spanning optics, spectroscopy, MEMS, electronics, systems engineering and data analysis.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute test and validation plans for MEMS-based spectrometer systems.
  • Design and build laboratory test setups, rigs and measurement systems.
  • Characterise NIR, MIR and Raman spectroscopy platforms.
  • Measure key performance parameters including spectral resolution, SNR, wavelength accuracy, sensitivity, repeatability and stability.
  • Develop manual and automated test procedures to improve testing efficiency.
  • Analyse experimental data and identify trends, failures and root causes.
  • Support product verification, production testing and qualification activities.
  • Investigate performance deviations and non-conformances.
  • Produce technical reports and communicate findings to engineering and management teams.
  • Work closely with MEMS Design, Manufacturing and Project Engineering teams to support product development.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics, Optical Engineering, Electronics, Photonics, Systems Engineering, Instrumentation or a related field.
  • 3+ years' experience in test, validation, characterisation or product development.
  • Hands-on experience testing hardware or scientific instrumentation.
  • Strong experimental and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience developing test procedures and validation plans.
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW or similar data analysis/test tools.
  • Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
