About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Java UI/UX Developer to build intuitive, accessible, high-performing user interfaces on top of Java-based services. You will work with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to turn requirements and wireframes into polished production applications, and you will help shape front-end standards for the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate wireframes, prototypes, and design systems (Figma or similar) into clean, reusable UI components
  • Develop and maintain Java back-end features (Spring Boot) to support UI functionality
  • Collaborate with UX designers on user flows, usability improvements, and design feedback
  • Optimize application performance, load times, and cross-browser and cross-device compatibility
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA, Section 508)
  • Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests for front-end and back-end code
  • Take part in code reviews, sprint planning, and agile ceremonies
  • Mentor junior developers and contribute to UI and coding best practices
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across the stack

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of software development experience, with significant hands-on Java experience (Java 11+)
  • Strong front-end skills: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Experience with a modern front-end framework such as React, Angular, or Vue
  • Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs, with Spring or Spring Boot
  • Solid understanding of UX principles, responsive design, and accessibility standards
  • Experience working from design mockups and prototypes (Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch)
  • Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and agile development
  • Experience with unit and UI testing (JUnit, Jest, Cypress, or Selenium)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for a distributed team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with design systems and component libraries
  • Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) and containers (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with JSF, Thymeleaf, or other Java UI technologies
  • Exposure to user research, usability testing, or A/B testing
  • Experience in [industry, e.g., healthcare, finance, government]
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or equivalent experience

Work Environment

  • Fully remote within the United States, with overlap with [time zone, e.g., Eastern] business hours
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. [without sponsorship / sponsorship available]
  • [Equipment, home office stipend, or other remote details]
