Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Illumio Resident Engineer to serve as the technical SME for a large enterprise Illumio environment.
This is not simply an operations or support role. We are looking for someone who can own the Illumio environment, drive Zero Trust Segmentation initiatives, troubleshoot complex issues, optimize policy, and work directly with security, network, infrastructure, application, and cloud teams.

Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary Illumio technical SME and trusted advisor for the customer. Design, implement, manage, and optimize Illumio segmentation and microsegmentation policies across enterprise workloads. Administer and support Policy Compute Engine (PCE) and Virtual Enforcement Node (VEN) environments. Lead VEN deployment, pairing, upgrades, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management across Windows and Linux workloads. Analyze application dependencies, network traffic flows, and workload communications to develop effective segmentation strategies.
Translate application and security requirements into least-privilege segmentation policies. Develop and maintain labels, rulesets, services, workloads, scopes, and policy objects. Troubleshoot complex PCE, VEN, connectivity, policy, certificate, and enforcement issues. Monitor platform health and proactively identify performance, availability, configuration, and policy issues. Plan and execute Illumio platform and VEN upgrades with minimal business disruption. Support segmentation initiatives across data center, cloud, hybrid-cloud, and endpoint environments.
Partner closely with network, security, infrastructure, application, cloud, and operations teams to understand application dependencies and safely implement segmentation. Build scripts and automation using Illumio REST APIs, Python, PowerShell, or similar tools. Integrate Illumio with enterprise security and operational platforms such as SIEM, CMDB, ServiceNow, vulnerability management, and automation/orchestration tools. Lead technical troubleshooting and coordinate escalations with Illumio Support and engineering when necessary.
Maintain architecture diagrams, operational procedures, policy documentation, upgrade plans, and troubleshooting runbooks. Provide knowledge transfer and mentoring to internal engineering and security teams. Recommend improvements to strengthen the organization s overall Zero Trust and segmentation strategy.
