Job Description

Multi-Discipline Designer - Mechanical / Electrical / Structural

Orlando, FL or Melbourne, FL

On-Site Role

6 Month Contract to Hire

$30 - $45/hr based on experience

ABOUT THE ROLE

Brooksource is hiring a Multi-Discipline Designer on behalf of our client, a top Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firm. This individual will support mechanical, electrical, and structural project teams by developing accurate 3D models and 2D design and construction documents. This role is ideal for an experienced Revit Designer or Drafter who has developed strong design capabilities and is comfortable taking engineering direction, sketches, and redlines and independently translating them into complete design deliverables.

Candidates may have a primary background in mechanical, electrical, or structural design, with mechanical and electrical experience being particularly relevant to the team's current needs. This individual is not expected to be an expert across every discipline but should be willing to learn and provide design support across multiple disciplines as project needs evolve.

The Designer will work closely with engineers, architects, project managers, and other designers on a diverse portfolio of commercial, defense, and other facility-related projects, providing an opportunity to broaden their technical capabilities and gain exposure across multiple engineering disciplines.

This role provides a strong opportunity for someone looking to expand beyond traditional drafting, broaden their technical design capabilities, and continue progressing into higher-level design responsibilities.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Develop and modify 3D Revit models and 2D design/construction drawings based on engineering sketches, redlines, markups, and verbal or written direction.
  • Translate engineering design intent into accurate drawings and models with minimal day-to-day guidance.
  • Perform design and drafting assignments within a primary discipline, such as mechanical, electrical, or structural, while supporting other disciplines as needed.
  • For mechanical assignments, support items such as equipment layouts, piping layouts/routing, and other mechanical system drawings.
  • For electrical assignments, support equipment layouts, wiring diagrams, schematics, and other electrical design drawings.
  • Incorporate redlines, markups, and design changes into ongoing project models and drawing packages.
  • Develop drawing sheets, cover sheets, indexes, layouts, details, and other project documentation.
  • Coordinate models and drawings across disciplines to identify potential conflicts and ensure design information is aligned.
  • Communicate directly with engineers and other designers to resolve drawing, modeling, and coordination issues.
  • Review and self-check work for accuracy, completeness, and consistency before submitting deliverables for engineering review.
  • Follow company, client, and project design/drafting standards.
  • Maintain project drawings, models, files, and related documentation in an organized manner.
  • Assemble and issue complete project deliverable packages, including drawing PDFs, Revit/CAD files, 3D models, specifications, and other supporting documentation.
  • Complete assignments within established project schedules and budgeted hours.
  • Support multiple project types and disciplines based on workload and project needs.

WHAT YOU BRING
  • 3+ years of relevant Revit design, drafting, or modeling experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of Autodesk Revit is required, including experience developing and modifying 3D models and producing 2D construction/design documents.
  • Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) or similar collaborative Revit environments is preferred.
  • AutoCAD experience is a plus but is not a primary requirement.
  • Experience within mechanical, electrical/MEP, or structural design environments. Mechanical or electrical experience is particularly desirable.
  • Ability to understand engineering sketches, redlines, markups, and general design direction and independently translate them into models and drawings.
  • Enough design knowledge within the candidate's primary discipline to complete assignments without requiring highly detailed, one-to-one drafting instructions.
  • Degree is not required. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in drafting/design technology, engineering technology, or a related technical field is a plus.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and support multiple disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, structural, architectural, and fire protection.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to review and self-check work before submission.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills with the ability to work directly with engineers, architects, project managers, and other designers.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multi-discipline project environment.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
