Job Description

  • 60% BMC Remedy development
  • 20% Oracle SQL / PL-SQL
  • 20% scripting, APIs, integrations, and supporting technologies


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain custom Remedy applications and functionality in a highly customized, non-ITSM environment.
  • Analyze existing Remedy workflows, SQL/PL-SQL, scripts, and integrations to understand both technical behavior and underlying business intent.
  • Safely modify and extend inherited code while considering dependencies, downstream impacts, and production risk.
  • Develop custom Remedy workflows using Active Links, Filters, Forms, and related AR System development components.
  • Read and analyze Remedy logs to troubleshoot production issues and identify the workflow objects responsible for failures or unexpected behavior.
  • Develop, modify, debug, and optimize complex Oracle SQL queries, PL/SQL stored procedures, and functions.
  • Review Oracle Explain Plans and identify opportunities to improve SQL performance.
  • Build and maintain integrations between Remedy and external platforms using REST APIs, SOAP APIs, middleware, scripts, and related technologies.
  • Support integrations with systems such as IVR platforms and other contact center or enterprise applications.
  • Develop and support user-facing Remedy forms, interfaces, and UI customizations.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across the Remedy application, Oracle database, application server, integration, and Linux layers.
  • Collaborate with product owners, contact center stakeholders, business partners, and technical teams to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Perform unit testing and support UAT, deployments, production validation, and stabilization.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation including application logic, workflows, integrations, database components, and solution designs.
  • Participate in knowledge transfer activities to improve the long-term maintainability of the platform.
  • Support platform upgrades, patching, and modernization efforts as needed.


Required Qualifications

BMC Remedy Development

  • 4+ years of hands-on BMC Remedy development experience, with significant experience creating custom applications and workflows rather than simply configuring standard ITSM modules.
  • Extensive experience developing Remedy workflows using:
  • Active Links
  • Filters
  • Forms
  • Custom workflow logic
  • Demonstrated experience working with heavily customized or non-standard Remedy implementations.
  • Strong ability to read, understand, troubleshoot, and extend existing Remedy logic.
  • Experience reviewing Remedy logs to diagnose production issues and identify problematic workflow objects.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in inherited applications with complex logic and limited documentation.


Oracle SQL / PL-SQL

  • Strong hands-on Oracle database experience, including the ability to:
  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries.
  • Read and understand existing SQL and PL/SQL logic.
  • Modify existing stored procedures and functions.
  • Develop PL/SQL stored procedures and functions.
  • Debug complex database logic.
  • Understand dependencies, side effects, and business intent within existing database code.
  • Interpret Oracle Explain Plan results and troubleshoot performance issues.
  • Candidates should be comfortable reasoning through unfamiliar SQL and PL/SQL rather than relying solely on code they personally wrote.


Integrations & Scripting

  • Experience developing or supporting integrations using REST and/or SOAP APIs.
  • Experience working with Remedy REST APIs.
  • Familiarity with Jetty Server in support of Remedy REST integrations.
  • Experience with Remedy SOAP APIs and Mid Tier integrations.
  • Comfortable reading, modifying, and troubleshooting shell scripts.
  • Experience working in Linux environments.
  • Ability to read or interface with scripts and applications written in Python, Java, or similar languages.


Preferred Technical Experience

  • Application Servers / Infrastructure
  • Experience working with Tomcat, including:
  • Reviewing application and server logs.
  • Updating configuration files.
  • Managing logging configuration.
  • Supporting security certificate changes.
  • Experience performing or supporting Tomcat upgrades.
  • Experience applying BMC patches or upgrades to Remedy AR Servers.
  • Experience performing or supporting Remedy Mid Tier upgrades.
  • Familiarity with Remedy 20.x environments.


Development Technologies

  • Experience with one or more of the following is beneficial:
  • Java
  • Python
  • Perl
  • Shell scripting
  • JavaScript
  • HTML
  • CSS


Cloud / Infrastructure

  • AWS exposure is helpful, particularly:
  • EC2
  • Linux server administration
  • Launch templates
  • Security groups
  • Basic cloud infrastructure troubleshooting


Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience upgrading or migrating Remedy 20.x toward BMC Helix, particularly on-premise environments.
  • BMC Helix experience.
  • Experience stabilizing, modernizing, or refactoring long-lived enterprise applications.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical 24x7 production applications.
  • Contact center experience.
  • Healthcare, PBM, Medicaid, or other regulated-industry experience.
  • Experience working in environments where system availability has direct customer, member, or operational impact.
  • Agile/Scrum experience.
