The Role

We're looking for an experienced Test Automation Engineer to build and run automated testing for public sector digital services. You'll work in multidisciplinary agile teams, using code to test microservices, user interfaces and APIs, and to build quality into every release through continuous testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines so tests run continuously.

  • Plan and run performance, security and accessibility testing.

  • Write clean, maintainable test code, and review other engineers' tests.

  • Analyse results, raise defects with clear evidence and help track them to a fix.

  • Work with developers, business analysts and product owners to define acceptance criteria and test coverage.

  • Report on quality, test coverage and release risks.

  • Share good test automation practice and support colleagues.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Strong, hands-on experience of test automation and programming (for example Java, JavaScript or TypeScript).

  • Experience testing microservices, with UI and API automation.

  • Experience with BDD and Cucumber.

  • Experience with at least one of Selenium, Cypress or Playwright.

  • Experience with REST Assured for API testing.

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and continuous testing.

  • Experience with performance, security and accessibility testing.

  • Experience working in agile, multidisciplinary teams.

  • Strong communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Performance tools such as JMeter, k6 or Gatling.

  • Accessibility testing to WCAG 2.2.

  • Experience delivering services to the GDS Service Standard.

  • AWS or Azure experience.

  • Experience mentoring other testers.
