Zenovo is recruiting a Lead Software Verification Engineer for a leading engineering company in Bristol. The role sits within the Automotive/Medical Verification team and involves leading the verification of embedded software solutions for safety-critical applications.

A suitable candidate will have 10+ years of experience in software verification, testing and embedded software within safety-critical environments, with proven experience leading verification activities across a Software Team.

The successful candidate will take ownership of verification strategy, planning, execution and reporting, ensuring software is rigorously tested, fully traceable to requirements and compliant with relevant safety-critical standards.
Hands-on testing and software verification experience is essential.

This is a technical leadership role for someone who can challenge verification approaches, identify gaps in test coverage and provide assurance that safety-critical software has been adequately verified.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and own all software verification activities, from strategy and planning through execution, reporting and completion.
  • Define and implement rigorous verification and test strategies aligned with requirements, architecture and applicable safety-critical standards.
  • Plan and execute hands-on software testing, analysing results and driving resolution of defects, anomalies and non-conformances.
  • Maintain robust requirements-to-test traceability and verification evidence, producing and reviewing high-quality test specifications, procedures and reports.
  • Review requirements, designs, code and verification evidence to identify defects, omissions and gaps, providing technical challenge and assurance.
  • Lead verification reviews and provide technical assurance for software release and development milestones, including RTOS and complex embedded systems across processor architectures.
  • Independently deliver complex verification projects, resolving ambiguous technical challenges and driving continuous improvements in testing, processes and quality.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring, collaborating across Software, Systems and other teams while developing best practice in safety-critical software verification.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • 10+ years of experience in software verification, software testing and/or embedded software engineering, preferably in safety-critical environments.
  • Proven experience leading or owning software verification activities across projects or Software Teams.
  • Strong hands-on experience in software testing and verification, including planning, specification, execution, results analysis and verification evidence.
  • Strong understanding of requirements-based testing, verification planning, test coverage and requirements traceability, with experience reviewing requirements, designs, code and verification evidence.
  • Proven ability to identify verification gaps, challenge technical assumptions and assess whether software has been adequately verified within a formal development lifecycle.
  • Experience developing and/or verifying safety-critical software to standards including IEC 61508, ISO 26262, DO-178B/C or IEC 62304, with knowledge of ASPICE and MISRA.
  • Strong embedded software and systems expertise, including C, low-level programming, multicore processors, complex hardware architectures, networking and protocols such as TCP/IP and UDP.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, communication and leadership skills, including configuration management, root-cause investigation, mentoring and cross-functional collaboration.
Desirable:
  • Experience working within Automotive and/or Medical software development environments.
  • Experience porting or verifying software across different processor architectures.
  • Experience producing verification documentation for safety certification or regulatory approval.
  • Experience with formal requirements management and traceability tools.
