We are currently seeking an experienced Operative Buyer to join a busy manufacturing environment.
The role will focus on maintaining continuity of supply through effective purchasing, MRP and scheduling. You will be responsible for identifying potential supply issues, taking corrective action and ensuring materials are available to support production.
You will also work closely with suppliers to achieve competitive pricing, strong delivery performance and improved purchasing terms.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide purchasing and procurement support across the business to ensure continuity of production.
- Monitor stock, demand and MRP requirements to identify potential shortages or supply risks.
- Raise and manage purchase orders in line with production requirements.
- Expedite orders where required to minimise disruption to production.
- Manage a portfolio of suppliers and monitor performance against agreed KPIs.
- Identify and resolve supplier delivery and quality issues.
- Support supplier improvement initiatives where required.
- Manage purchasing requirements for design changes, special and one-off parts.
- Support sourcing activities to identify suitable parts and suppliers.
- Assist with procurement projects aimed at reducing costs and improving value.
- Maintain accurate procurement and supplier data.
- Work closely with internal teams to gather feedback on supplier performance.
- Ensure all purchasing activity is carried out in line with company policies and procedures.
- Maintain a safe, tidy and compliant working environment.
Experience Required
Essential:
- Previous experience working as a Buyer within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience using an MRP system.
- Experience monitoring supplier performance and KPIs.
- Ability to identify potential supply risks and take proactive action.
- Experience working to demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong planning, organisational and time-management skills.
- Good problem-solving and creative thinking abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Qualifications
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or above, or equivalent.
Desirable:
- CIPS Level 3 Certificate in Procurement & Supply Operations, or equivalent procurement experience.
