Job Summary

KeyBank is seeking a Senior Software Engineer – Generative AI Innovation to develop, evaluate, and deliver Generative AI solutions for its Institutional Banking organization. This hands-on role combines software engineering, applied AI experimentation, rapid prototyping, and cloud-native development to transform business opportunities into practical AI-driven solutions. The engineer will collaborate with business, technology, and governance teams to validate use cases and support the transition of successful solutions into production.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy Generative AI proofs of concept and production-ready applications.

• Evaluate emerging AI technologies, platforms, tools, and vendors for business applicability.

• Develop AI-enabled applications using LLMs, RAG, agentic AI frameworks, document intelligence, workflow automation, APIs, and cloud services.

• Translate business needs into prototypes, technical experiments, and demonstrable solutions.

• Identify AI opportunities that improve productivity, decision-making, client service, operational efficiency, and risk management.

• Support AI governance, risk, compliance, security, model review, and technology approval processes.

• Research emerging AI trends and present findings and recommendations to business and technology leadership.

• Integrate AI platforms with enterprise systems and cloud services.

• Establish reusable engineering patterns and best practices for AI solution development.

• Write secure, maintainable, and testable code and develop technical documentation, reference architectures, and implementation guidance.

• Present prototypes, technical findings, and solution roadmaps to stakeholders and senior management.

• Support production deployments, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of GenAI solutions.

Must-Have Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience developing web-based or distributed applications.

• Hands-on experience with Generative AI technologies, LLMs, AI-enabled applications, or related emerging technologies.

• Experience developing software using modern programming languages, frameworks, APIs, and cloud services.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to independently navigate ambiguity and learn new technologies.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

• Proven ability to take ownership of complex problems and deliver solutions from concept through implementation.

Preferred Requirements

• Experience with Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) and/or Microsoft Azure.

• Experience implementing or evaluating RAG, agentic AI workflows, document intelligence, or workflow automation platforms.

• Experience in regulated industries and collaboration with governance, risk, compliance, security, or legal teams.

• Experience evaluating vendor technologies and presenting technical recommendations to leadership.

• Experience with proof-of-concept development, experimentation, and innovation initiatives.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
