Position Overview

The developer will work with an established legacy mainframe environment, analyzing existing Enterprise COBOL programs and extending account management, transaction posting, balance maintenance, sweep processing, interest allocation, reconciliation, and reporting capabilities.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Enterprise COBOL, NaturalOne, Natural, Adabas, VSAM, JCL, and financial accounting systems. This role requires a strong focus on financial accuracy, auditability, regression testing, and maintaining existing production functionality.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze existing account master, transaction posting, and balance maintenance programs to determine the changes required to support Composite Reservoir Accounts.
• Design, develop, test, and implement new account functionality within the existing mainframe accounting platform.
• Enhance master files, table structures, account opening and closing processes, and participant account linkages.
• Develop sweep and reverse-sweep processing, balance allocation, interest apportionment, and closing balance calculations.
• Modify Enterprise COBOL programs, JCL, procedures, and batch processing jobs to support the new account structure.
• Integrate CRA processing into nightly batch jobs and month-end accounting cycles while maintaining agreed batch processing windows.
• Enhance audit trails, exception reports, financial controls, and reconciliation processes.
• Develop test data, unit tests, regression test suites, and parallel-run comparisons against existing production outputs.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies between expected and actual financial results.
• Trace undocumented business logic through COBOL copybooks, program call chains, Natural programs, and job streams.
• Support implementation, account conversion, production deployment, and initial production cycles, including on-call support as required.
• Prepare technical documentation, data-flow diagrams or notes, implementation plans, and operational runbooks.
• Follow formal change management, peer review, and production release approval procedures.
• Collaborate with accounting stakeholders, business analysts, developers, and production support teams.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of Enterprise COBOL development experience in a z/OS mainframe environment.
• 5+ years of experience with NaturalOne, including Natural application development, debugging, and deployment.
• 3+ years of JCL development and production support experience, including job streams, procedures, utilities, and restart/recovery handling.
• 3+ years of financial or accounting systems development/support experience, including double-entry posting, balance and accrual maintenance, value dating, reconciliation, and month-end closing.
• 3+ years of experience with Adabas and VSAM, including file structures, access methods, and data management.
• 3+ years of experience analyzing legacy systems, tracing undocumented business logic through copybooks, program dependencies, call chains, and batch job streams.
