Our success is built on collaboration, trust, and a shared commitment to solving complex workforce challenges together.

About the Role:

The Principal Cloud Site Reliability Engineer will report to the Director of Cloud Operations and will have overall responsibility for the implementation, administration, and day-to-day operations of public cloud (e.g., AWS) accounts used by Flagship Pioneering and its portfolio companies.

In this role, you will be part of building the cloud operations practice that emphasizes the practical needs of young, rapidly growing biotech companies, balancing stability and security with productivity and innovation.

The successful candidate will have expertise in AWS, DevOps, infrastructure as code, and automation.

A typical day could include collaborating with architects on tagging policies for Organizational Units (OUs), launching new AWS accounts for portfolio companies, solving complex bespoke problems, providing escalation support for Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to ensure high-quality user support, creating process diagrams and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and writing Python code to automate the boring stuff.

Responsibilities:

  • Create, manage, administer, support, and operate AWS environments owned by Flagship’s early-stage portfolio companies, Pioneering Medicines, and Flagship Pioneering.
  • Work closely with partners, stakeholders, and internal customers to ensure alignment and consistency.
  • Identify, prioritize, and code operational innovations that increase productivity and create scalable value across the enterprise.
  • Provide tier 3 escalation support to managed service providers who provide cloud operations support
  • Provide subject matter expert cloud operations support to Flagship enterprise companies, including topics such as cost optimization and Well-Architected Reviews.
  • Leverage AWS services such as Lambda, EventBridge, CloudWatch, and CloudTrail to build observability, automation, and analytics tools.
  • Collaborate with architecture and product teams to identify areas for improvement outside the cloud space when appropriate.
  • Ensure cloud-based architectures meet availability and recoverability requirements
  • Understand infrastructure-as-code principles to develop cloud Infrastructure as Code (IaC) in a Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field OR equivalent years of experience
  • 5-9+ years of technical experience in Cloud and IT Infrastructure Operations focused on building and operating cloud environments
  • 4+ years of experience working with AWS in a Site Reliability Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or similar.
  • 2+ years in an enterprise or similar environment that operates or supports across multiple separate business units or functions
  • Strong level of scripting and automation expertise, using Python, Terraform, AWS CDK, or an equivalent language
