About the Role

We're looking for compassionate, resilient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to join our growing team and support students with SEND and complex needs to achieve more than they ever thought possible.

This is more than a classroom support role. You'll be a mentor, role model and trusted adult, helping students build confidence, develop independence and overcome barriers to learning. Whether you're celebrating a breakthrough moment, supporting a student through a challenge, or helping them achieve a personal goal, you'll see the impact of your work every single day.

If you're passionate about helping young people thrive and want to be part of a supportive team that values your contribution, we'd love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

  • Supporting students on a 1:1, small-group and classroom basis.
  • Helping students engage with personalised learning activities.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence and wellbeing.
  • Providing emotional and behavioural support to help students succeed.
  • Encouraging independence, communication skills and personal development.
  • Supporting practical, outdoor and enrichment activities.
  • Working closely with teachers to create a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment.
  • Celebrating progress and recognising every achievement, no matter how small.

Who We’re Looking For

We're looking for someone who is caring, patient and motivated to make a positive difference.

  • GCSE Maths and English Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) required
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs.
  • A calm, compassionate and positive approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Resilience and flexibility when faced with challenges.
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to learn and develop.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and helping every student reach their full potential.

About Us

Trimdon Hill School is an independent specialist school in Trimdon Grange, County Durham, supporting students aged 4–11 with autism and associated complex needs. Opened in June 2025, we provide a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment where every child is supported to SHINE. Our personalised, autism-informed curriculum develops communication, social interaction, and curiosity through rich, inclusive learning.

Working closely with families and clinical professionals, we support each child’s progress, independence, and readiness for the next stage of education.

At Outcomes First Schools, we provide specialist education for learners who need a deeper level of understanding, expertise and support than mainstream education can typically offer. We support students with a wide range of complex, co-occurring and neurodivergent needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and communication needs, dyslexia and experiences of trauma or adversity.

We are proud to be a part of OFG Education who in 2025 were officially certified as a ‘Great Place to Work’ for the sixth year running.

Why Join Us?

We place students and vulnerable young adults at the heart of everything we do, so every day brings the satisfaction of making a real difference. We are committed to the safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students and young people. All applicants will be subject to social media checks and successful applicants to a fully enhanced DBS.

  • Life Assurance
  • Pension scheme with options to increase contributions
  • “Your Wellbeing Matters” – mental health support and physical health checks
  • Flexible Benefits Platform (Vista), including:

    • Hundreds of UK and international discounts
    • Cycle to Work Scheme & Electric Car Purchase Scheme
    • Critical illness cover
    • Family Growth Support, including enhanced maternity/paternity leave and paid fertility treatment support
