Synopsis.ai - FS Engineer - Chicago Onsite

A rapidly scaling, venture-backed technology startup in Chicago is hiring a Software Engineer to help expand a next-generation data platform focused on simplifying how companies work with complex, unstructured information. This is a full-time, onsite role in downtown Chicago working across technologies like Node.js, React, Python, and the most modern AI tooling. The company has already achieved significant early traction and is now entering a high-growth expansion phase.

Rather than focusing purely on traditional coding output, the team heavily leverages cutting-edge AI tools to automate development and accelerate delivery, freeing engineers to focus on architecture, design, and solving meaningful problems. They're looking for someone adaptable and curious: an engineer who can move across product, data, and infrastructure challenges while staying current with the rapidly evolving AI landscape. You'll work directly with the founders and play a key role in scaling both the product and engineering culture as the company grows. Required Skills & Experience

• Strong foundation in software engineering (ability to read, review, and maintain high-quality code)
• Experience with modern web technologies (Node.js, React, and/or Python)
• Ability to operate as a generalist across different parts of the stack
• Experience or strong interest in leveraging AI tools within development workflows
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous, scaling startup environment

Desired Skills & Experience

• Exposure to building or working with AI/LLM-powered applications
• Experience with data engineering or processing large/unstructured datasets
• Familiarity with tools like Spark, Scala, or cloud-based data infrastructure
• Previous startup or scale-up experience
• Interest in system design, product ownership, and workflow optimization
