Job Description

VDC Specialist (Mechanical Plumbing)

Role Overview

We are seeking seasoned Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Specialist to bridge the gap between initial design concepts and physical installation. In this role, you will utilize Revit to take 3D design models and engineering contract documents for mechanical piping systems and transform them into highly detailed, fabrication-ready Building Information Models (BIM). Utilizing advanced fabrication modeling software, you will ensure our digital assets are perfectly aligned for shop manufacturing and field assembly.

Core Responsibilities

Advanced Modeling & Coordination
  • Construct LOD 400 Building Information Models specifically for plumbing and mechanical systems by collaborating directly with project managers and engineers.
  • Drive the spatial trade coordination process alongside General Contractors and other subcontractors.
  • Participate actively in weekly cross-trade coordination meetings (held both virtually and on-site) to resolve spatial conflicts.
  • Identify design ambiguities or discrepancies and draft formal Requests for Information (RFIs) for submission to the design team.
Detailing & Field Support
  • Develop, annotate, and finalize comprehensive shop, sleeve, and hanger drawings tailored for fabrication and field installation.
  • Extract and export precise hanger and sleeve layout coordinates to support the field total station layout team.
  • Generate essential production deliverables including bills of materials, pipe cut lists, fabrication/hanger labels, and project reports.
  • Liaise with field crews to verify that spool and shop drawings accurately reflect installation and manufacturing intent.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
  • Support project timelines by partnering with fellow team members to deliver accurate models and drawings on schedule.
  • Guide and mentor junior VDC team members through structured on-the-job training.
  • Deliver peer training focused on fabrication workflows, detailing software, and collaborative BIM platforms.
  • Advise leadership on necessary hardware upgrades and software solutions to optimize team productivity.
  • Pursue continuous learning opportunities to elevate personal and team accuracy
