Job Description

CAD Engineer – Design Projects That Come to Life

Location: Milton Keynes

Salary: up to £45 000, dependent on experience

Industry: Engineering / Construction / Live Events

Tired of producing drawings for the same types of projects? Want to see your designs become part of something much bigger?

We're recruiting a CAD Engineer to join an innovative engineering and design team delivering impressive structures for major sporting, entertainment and cultural events.

This is an opportunity to take your technical drawing skills into an industry where no two projects are the same. From large-scale stages and grandstands to complex temporary structures and bespoke installations, you'll help transform ambitious ideas into real-world structures.

Whether your background is in structural steelwork, fabrication, construction or live events, this could be an exciting next step.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Producing detailed 2D AutoCAD drawings and 3D models for a variety of structural projects.
  • Creating technical drawings for stages, grandstands, temporary structures and bespoke installations.
  • Preparing fabrication and construction drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs) and component schedules.
  • Turning engineering concepts, structural designs and technical briefs into practical, buildable solutions.
  • Working closely with engineers, project managers and construction teams to bring designs to life.
  • Supporting projects from initial design through to fabrication and installation.
  • Identifying potential design or installation challenges and helping develop practical solutions.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong AutoCAD 2D skills.
  • Experience producing detailed technical drawings within engineering, structural steelwork, fabrication, construction or a similar environment.
  • An understanding of construction methods, materials and structural components.
  • Experience preparing Bills of Materials and component schedules.
  • Good technical problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and translate technical information into practical solutions.

Experience with SketchUp, Inventor, Revit, Vectorworks or live event structures would be advantageous, but isn't essential.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Projects with real impact: Help deliver structures for major sporting, entertainment and cultural events.
  • Variety: Work on everything from large-scale staging to bespoke engineered structures.
  • See your work become reality: Your drawings will contribute directly to the fabrication and construction of impressive physical structures.
  • Develop your skills: Gain exposure to specialist temporary structures, structural engineering and large-scale project delivery.
  • Collaborative environment: Work alongside experienced engineers, designers and project teams.
  • Career development: Access opportunities for professional training and progression.

Interested?

If you're an experienced CAD Technician, CAD Engineer or Draughtsperson looking for something more varied and exciting, we'd love to hear from you.

You don't need previous live events experience. If you've got strong AutoCAD skills and a solid understanding of engineering or construction drawings, your experience could be a great fit.

Apply today or contact Bec at Reed Engineering for a confidential discussion about the opportunity.
