Job Type: Contract

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Program Architect – ADMS to provide architectural leadership across a large-scale enterprise Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) program.

The Program Architect will own and coordinate the end-to-end program architecture across multiple projects, systems, platforms, and delivery teams. This role will bridge enterprise architecture strategy and program execution, ensuring architectural consistency, strong governance, effective integration, and successful delivery at scale.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in enterprise/solution architecture, complex system integration, cloud/hybrid environments, distributed systems, and technical leadership. Experience with utility/grid modernization and AspenTech OSI ADMS is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Program-Level Architecture

  • Own end-to-end architecture for the assigned program, including target state, transition states, and integration strategy.

  • Ensure architectural consistency across projects and workstreams.

  • Serve as the architectural escalation point for cross-solution conflicts, tradeoffs, and risks.

  • Define architectural guardrails and ensure solutions remain scalable, maintainable, and production-ready.

Enterprise Alignment & Governance

  • Partner with Enterprise Architects to translate enterprise standards and principles into program-level architecture.

  • Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture, security, reliability, and regulatory requirements.

  • Lead program-level architecture reviews and manage governance artifacts and approvals.

  • Establish pragmatic architecture patterns and standards across the program.

Architecture Team Leadership

  • Lead and coordinate Solution Architects and architects across multiple organizational teams.

  • Provide architectural direction, guardrails, and decision clarity without micromanaging solution design.

  • Drive collaboration and alignment across architecture teams.

  • Prevent architectural fragmentation, duplication, and conflicting technology decisions.

Integration & Dependency Management

  • Own cross-system integration strategy, including interfaces, APIs, data flows, and shared services.

  • Identify and manage architectural dependencies across projects, platforms, and external programs.

  • Proactively identify and mitigate architectural risks affecting program delivery.

  • Ensure consistent integration patterns across operational and enterprise systems.

ADMS / Grid Modernization Architecture

  • Define end-to-end architecture across ADMS capabilities, including OMS, DMS, and SCADA integrations.

  • Ensure integration with GIS, AMI, DERMS, EMS, asset management, customer systems, and field/edge systems.

  • Support real-time and near-real-time telemetry, network models, operational analytics, and control-room capabilities.

  • Establish architectural guardrails for vendor platforms and system integrators.

  • Support phased ADMS implementation, legacy-system transition, and decommissioning strategies.

  • Ensure cybersecurity considerations are embedded across OT/IT and IT/OT boundary integrations.

Reliability & Operational Readiness

  • Design for high availability, fault tolerance, scalability, disaster recovery, security, observability, and supportability.

  • Remain engaged throughout implementation and production deployment.

  • Support delivery teams in resolving architecture-related technical issues.

  • Ensure solutions are operationally ready and production-ready.

  • Capture lessons learned and contribute improvements to enterprise architecture standards.

Required Qualifications

  • 8–10+ years of experience in architecture, engineering, or senior technical leadership.

  • Proven experience leading architecture for large-scale, multi-project enterprise programs.

  • Previous Solution Architect, Lead Architect, or Program Architect experience with direct delivery accountability.

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Distributed and integrated systems

    • Application architecture

    • Data architecture

    • Cloud and/or hybrid environments

    • Enterprise integration

    • Security-by-design

    • Non-functional requirements

  • Ability to reason across application, platform, infrastructure, and operations domains.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence without direct authority.

  • Strong decision-making skills in complex and ambiguous environments.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with executives, program leadership, architects, engineers, vendors, and delivery teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in electric utilities / energy / grid modernization.

  • Hands-on experience with AspenTech OSI ADMS.

  • Experience with:

    • Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS)

    • Outage Management Systems (OMS)

    • Distribution Management Systems (DMS)

    • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)

    • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

    • Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)

    • Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS)

    • Energy Management Systems (EMS)

  • Experience with real-time operational systems and telemetry.

  • Experience with IT/OT integration and cybersecurity.

  • Experience managing system integrators and technology vendors.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on Program/Solution Architect who can operate at both the strategic and technical levels. You should be comfortable coordinating multiple architecture teams, resolving complex integration and architectural dependencies, challenging technical decisions when necessary, and partnering with program leadership to deliver business outcomes.

Experience with ADMS and utility grid modernization is strongly preferred.
