Accounts Payable Accountant | $55-65K + Annual Bonus | 100% Onsite | Direct Hire | Ames Metro, IA
A growing organization in the Ames metro area is seeking an Accounts Payable Specialist to join its accounting team. This is a great opportunity for a detail-oriented accounting professional or recent graduate who wants to build their experience beyond traditional AP. The role will focus on invoice processing and vendor management while also providing exposure to fixed assets, debt amortization schedules, audits, and other accounting projects. The ideal candidate is comfortable with technology, embraces AI and process improvement, and enjoys working in an accurate, deadline-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Process, code, and enter invoices accurately and on time
• Maintain vendor information and communicate directly with vendors
• Collect and maintain W-9s and other required vendor documentation
• Reconcile vendor statements and research discrepancies
• Support fixed asset accounting and debt amortization schedules
• Assist with annual audit documentation and special accounting projects
• Help improve accounting processes through greater use of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Accounting or related field preferred; recent graduates with relevant experience are encouraged to apply
• 1–2+ years of accounts payable, invoicing, or related accounting experience
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• Experience with vendor management, W-9s, and vendor communication
• Strong Excel and accounting software skills
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is a plus
• Multi-entity accounting or experience working with multiple bank accounts is a plus
• Comfortable embracing AI and new technology to improve efficiency
