Mainframe Developer

**hybrid role- 3 days onsite per week in Malvern, PA

Description:

• We are seeking a Mainframe Production Support professional to maintain, monitor, and support batch processing operations across our mainframe environment.
• This role requires strong hands-on expertise in COBOL, DB2, and JCL, with responsibility for day-to-day batch execution, issue resolution, and ongoing maintenance of existing mainframe applications.
• Working knowledge of Java is a plus, particularly for teams supporting hybrid mainframe/ modernized environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Execute, monitor, and troubleshoot daily/nightly batch jobs using JCL, ensuring successful completion within SLA windows
• Provide production support for mainframe applications, including incident triage, root cause analysis, and timely resolution of production issues
• Maintain and enhance existing COBOL programs to fix defects, implement small changes, and support ongoing business requirements
• Monitor DB2 database jobs, resolve data issues, and support database-related batch processing
• Perform job scheduling, restart/rerun of failed batch jobs, and coordinate with scheduling tools (e.g., Control-M, CA7, or equivalent)
• Respond to and resolve production incidents, including on-call/off-hours support as needed for critical batch cycles
• Document runbooks, known issues, and resolution steps to support consistent production operations
• Collaborate with application, database, and infrastructure teams to identify recurring issues and drive permanent fixes Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end batch cycles, including additional monitoring during peak processing periods
• Participate in change management and release activities affecting batch and production environments

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on experience with COBOL, DB2, and JCL in a production support capacity
• Strong understanding of mainframe batch processing, job scheduling, and z/OS environments
• Experience with incident management, root cause analysis, and production troubleshooting
• Familiarity with job scheduling tools (Control-M, CA7, Zeke, or similar)
• Ability to work under pressure during critical batch windows and production incidents
• Strong communication skills for coordinating across technical and business teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of Java, particularly useful for teams operating in hybrid mainframe/modernized environments
• Experience with ITSM tools (ServiceNow, ITIL processes) for incident and change management
• Exposure to mainframe modernization or migration initiatives
• Familiarity with monitoring tools for batch job alerting and performance.
