The Opportunity

Forbes Bros. Group of Companies is seeking experienced Journeyman Linemen (Powerline Technicians) to support the construction of high-voltage transmission infrastructure. In this role, you'll apply your technical expertise to the installation, assembly, stringing, maintenance, and repair of electrical powerline systems while working alongside experienced field crews.

This opportunity is well-suited for a skilled Journeyperson with hands-on transmission construction experience, particularly in lattice tower climbing, conductor stringing, clipping, and dead-ending. You'll contribute directly to the construction of critical electrical infrastructure while working in a safety-focused, hands-on field environment.

Key Elements of the Role

  • Construct transmission powerlines: Perform all phases of new transmission and distribution powerline construction, including installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground electrical systems.

  • Climb and assemble structures: Safely climb lattice towers, frame wood and steel structures, and assemble and erect lattice transmission structures according to project specifications.

  • Perform conductor stringing: Complete overhead conductor stringing activities, including clipping, dead-ending, and assisting with the setup and operation of puller and tensioner sites.

  • Operate construction equipment: Safely operate specialized equipment, tools, and machinery used in transmission and distribution construction and maintenance.

  • Troubleshoot electrical systems: Identify and resolve issues with overhead transmission and distribution infrastructure while ensuring work meets applicable standards and construction requirements.

  • Maintain safety standards: Follow established safety procedures, use required personal protective equipment, recognize hazards, and participate in tailboard meetings, safety observations, and incident reporting.

  • Ensure quality workmanship: Complete work according to engineering drawings, specifications, and client requirements, identify deficiencies, and assist with inspections and corrective actions.

  • Support field crews: Collaborate with supervisors and crew members, participate in safety and quality meetings, and share technical knowledge with apprentices and less-experienced workers.

What You’ll Bring

  • A valid Journeyperson Powerline Technician certification recognized in Ontario.

  • A high school diploma and a minimum of 4 years of experience in the powerline industry, including previous Journeyman-level transmission or distribution experience.

  • Demonstrated experience climbing lattice transmission towers and performing construction work at heights.

  • Hands-on experience working with transmission conductor stringing crews, including clipping and/or dead-ending.

  • Strong knowledge of powerline construction methods, maintenance procedures, equipment operation, and electrical safety practices.

  • Required Fall Arrest, First Aid, and Ontario Ministry of Labour Four-Step Awareness training.

  • A valid driver's licence and an acceptable driver's abstract.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including climbing, heavy lifting, and manual labour in varying weather conditions.

  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a crew.

  • Availability to travel, work a 3-weeks-on, 1-week-off rotation, and accommodate overtime and weekend work as required.

Experience with implosive connections and a valid implosive connection qualification are considered major assets. Bucket rescue and tower rescue training are also considered assets.

The range shown is the expected base pay range for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on role requirements, experience, qualifications, work location, applicable project/site requirements, internal equity, and any applicable collective agreement or union requirements.

This range does not include overtime, premiums, per diem / LOA, bonuses, benefits, or other forms of compensation unless specifically stated in the job posting.
