Power Platform Developer

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Power Platform Developer to join the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) ITD team in Mechanicsville, VA. This hybrid role focuses on designing, building, and deploying low-code and custom enterprise solutions across Microsoft Power Apps (Canvas & Model-Driven), Power Automate, Power Pages, Dataverse, and Copilot Studio. The developer will write custom C#/.NET plugins, build JavaScript/SPFx front-end components, integrate data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, and establish DevOps ALM pipelines for VDOT.

Key Responsibilities

• Low-Code & Application Engineering: Build and configure custom Canvas Apps, Model-Driven Apps, Power Automate flows, and Power Pages for internal and external enterprise applications.
• Dataverse & Custom Development: Design Dataverse data models and write custom C# plugins, .NET web components, and JavaScript client scripts to extend Power Platform capabilities.
• Copilot & AI Integration: Implement intelligent conversational bots and agentic workflows using Microsoft Copilot Studio.
• Data Integration & Migrations: Build, maintain, and optimize data integration pipelines and migrations utilizing Azure Data Factory (ADF) and Azure Synapse.
• DevOps & Platform Governance: Implement Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) using Power Pipelines or ALM Accelerator; establish code review standards and platform governance frameworks.
• Requirements & Discovery: Lead discovery workshops and requirements sessions with business stakeholders; build rapid mockups/prototypes in an Agile SDLC environment.
• M365 & SharePoint Ecosystem: Extend solutions using SharePoint Online, SharePoint Framework (SPFx), Microsoft 365 services, and PowerShell automation scripting.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Total IT Experience: 8+ years of total progressive software development and IT experience.
• Power Platform & Dataverse: 5+ years of dedicated experience building enterprise applications on Microsoft Power Platform and Dataverse.
• Full-Suite Power Platform Delivery: 5+ years designing, implementing, and migrating solutions using Power Apps, Power BI, and Power Automate.
• Custom Software Development: 5+ years of custom code development experience using C#, .NET, and JavaScript.
• Data Pipelines & Integrations: 3+ years managing data migrations and integrations using Azure Data Factory (ADF) or Azure Synapse.
• DevOps in Power Platform: 2+ years utilizing Power Platform DevOps tools (Power Pipelines / ALM Accelerator / Azure DevOps).

Preferred & Highly Desired Qualifications

• Microsoft Copilot Studio: 1+ year building custom copilots and chatbots in Copilot Studio.
• SharePoint & M365 Ecosystem: 5+ years with SharePoint Online, Microsoft 365, SPFx development, and PowerShell scripting.
• Active Microsoft Power Platform certifications (e.g., PL-200, PL-400, or equivalent PowerApps Developer/Professional certifications).
