This role is Hybrid in Mississauga (2 days onsite per week). This is a 6+ month contract opportunity with strong potential for extension or conversion to full-time. This opportunity is with a leading global financial institution delivering large-scale digital platforms and enterprise technology solutions that support critical banking and financial services used by customers around the world.
Overview of The Role
This is a senior backend engineering opportunity focused on building and enhancing large-scale, high-performance applications within a complex financial services environment. You'll work primarily with Java, Spring, and Kafka, contributing to distributed, event-driven systems while helping improve application scalability, reliability, and performance.
This role is ideal for an experienced backend engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working with distributed systems, and delivering reliable software in a highly collaborative Agile environment. You'll have the opportunity to work on business-critical platforms while partnering with a high-performing engineering team focused on modernizing and scaling enterprise technology.
Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of professional software development experience
• Strong experience with Java and Spring / Spring Boot
• Experience building RESTful APIs and microservices
• Strong experience with Apache Kafka and event-driven architectures
• Experience designing and developing distributed backend systems
• Strong SQL and relational database experience
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and scalable application development
• Experience troubleshooting and supporting production applications

Desired Skills & Experience

• Experience working within banking, financial services, or other large-scale enterprise environments
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
• Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes
• Experience with high-volume messaging and asynchronous processing
• Experience writing unit and integration tests
• Experience working with highly available, business-critical applications
• Experience working within Agile development teams
