Quick overview
Job description
This is a hybrid position and must be located within 100 miles of a Mayo Clinic campus for occasional on-site expectations based on business needs.
The Enterprise Architecture organization is seeking a Distinguished Enterprise Architect to provide enterprise-wide architecture leadership for strategic initiatives and complex technology challenges. This role serves as a trusted advisor to Architecture leadership and senior executives and is responsible for helping define enterprise strategy, target-state direction, standards, technical doctrine, and multi-year direction within a strategic technology specialty. The Distinguished Enterprise Architect provides expertise on decisions and challenges with enterprise-wide impact and helps guide technology choices that have long-term organizational implications.
The Distinguished Enterprise Architect establishes specialty strategy, standards, reference architectures, and technical direction while helping resolve complex challenges that span organizational and technology boundaries. Through strategic advisory work, technology evaluation, architecture governance, and collaboration with executive leadership, this role helps shape long-term enterprise technology direction. The Distinguished Enterprise Architect also mentors architects and senior technical leaders, contributes to architecture excellence across the organization, and represents Mayo Clinic in strategic engagements with vendors, research collaborators, standards organizations, and professional communities.
The Distinguished Enterprise Architect is an individual contributor appointed for exceptional and recognized expertise in a named strategic technology or architecture specialty. The role sets enterprise specialty strategy, technical doctrine, target-state direction, standards, and precedent; solves unprecedented or systemic problems; and advises Architecture leadership and senior executives on decisions with enterprise-wide and multi-year consequences. Distinguished is a cross-cutting technical-authority overlay rather than routine ownership of a portfolio, platform operating backlog, or governance service.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, systems engineering, or other relevant degrees and 15 years of relevant technology experience required. Master's degree in computer science, information systems, systems engineering, or other relevant degree and demonstrated architecture or technical leadership as a Principal, Chief, Distinguished, Fellow, or equivalent senior technical authority preferred.
TOGAF Enterprise Architecture Practitioner or TOGAF 9 Certified certification is required within 12 months of employment. TOGAF EA Leader credential is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience with the following:
- Defining enterprise-wide technology and architecture strategy.
- Developing standards, reference architectures, and technical guidance.
- Leading complex cross-organizational technology initiatives.
- Advising senior executives on technology direction, risk, and investment decisions.
- Evaluating emerging technologies and guiding adoption decisions.
- Solving highly complex technical and architectural challenges.
- Building alignment across multiple technology domains and stakeholder groups.
- Mentoring architects and senior technical leaders.
- Representing an organization in strategic vendor, research, and professional engagements.
- Demonstrated technical experience along with demonstrated architecture or technical leadership as a Principal, Chief, Distinguished, Fellow, or equivalent senior technical authority.
- TOGAF Enterprise Architecture Practitioner or TOGAF 9 Certified credential required within the required timeframe; TOGAF EA Leader credential preferred.
Authorization to work and remain in the United States, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorships now, or in the future (for example, be a U.S. Citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee, or asylee). Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.
