Infor Technical Project Manager - Payroll & Workforce Management

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Infor Technical Project Manager - Payroll & Workforce Management to lead the technical strategy, delivery, production support, architecture, and operational governance of enterprise payroll and workforce management applications.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Infor WFM and/or UKG Payroll, combined with expertise in payroll processing, integrations, production support, technical architecture, vendor management, and project delivery.

This role requires a hands-on technology leader who can move between strategic planning, technical troubleshooting, architecture decisions, stakeholder management, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities

1. Payroll Technology & Application Leadership

  • Own the technical health, reliability, support model, and roadmap for payroll and workforce management applications.

  • Provide technical leadership for Infor WFM and UKG Payroll environments.

  • Define payroll technology strategy, architecture simplification, investment priorities, and modernization initiatives.

  • Manage technology budgets, Agile funding, vendor contracts, SLAs, and delivery commitments.

  • Identify opportunities for automation, monitoring, reporting, self-service, and AI-enabled improvements.


2. Production Support & Incident Management

  • Lead technical triage and resolution of critical payroll, workforce management, integration, data, configuration, access, calculation, timekeeping, and financial posting issues.

  • Drive incidents from initial diagnosis through containment, resolution, validation, RCA, and preventive action.

  • Perform or direct:

    • Application and integration log analysis

    • Data validation and comparison

    • Configuration analysis

    • Interface/file investigation

    • Schedule and batch-job analysis

    • Security/access analysis

    • Controlled testing and validation

  • Lead critical payroll-cycle incidents, releases, cutovers, go-lives, and stabilization activities.

  • Ensure workarounds are properly assessed, documented, controlled, and replaced by permanent solutions.


3. Technical Architecture & Integration

  • Own and review technical solution architecture across payroll and workforce management platforms.

  • Design and govern integrations between payroll applications and enterprise systems such as:

    • Workday

    • SAP Finance

    • Banking systems

    • Tax platforms

    • Time & Attendance systems

    • HR/Finance applications

  • Ensure data flows, interfaces, APIs, file transfers, security, schedules, and downstream dependencies are well understood and documented.

  • Challenge unnecessary customization, weak controls, unsupported handoffs, and non-scalable solutions.

  • Drive architecture simplification, modernization, reliability, and maintainability.


4. Payroll Functional & Technical Expertise

  • Demonstrate strong understanding of end-to-end payroll processing, including:

    • Hours-to-Gross

    • Gross-to-Net

    • Payroll calculations

    • Timekeeping

    • Payroll interfaces

    • Financial posting

    • Payroll controls

    • Payroll reconciliation

  • Support complex U.S. and Canadian payroll environments.

  • Understand payroll compliance, tax requirements, SOX controls, audit requirements, information security, and data privacy.

  • Experience supporting union and non-union payroll environments is preferred.


5. Project & Delivery Management

  • Lead payroll technology implementations, enhancements, migrations, releases, and transformation projects.

  • Establish delivery plans, milestones, dependencies, risks, resources, and contingency plans.

  • Apply appropriate Agile/Scrum, ITIL, and project management practices.

  • Ensure solutions are properly tested, documented, approved, and production-ready.

  • Manage competing operational and project priorities based on business impact and payroll-cycle criticality.


6. Team & Vendor Leadership

  • Lead and mentor technical leads, payroll technology professionals, contractors, managed service providers, and vendors.

  • Establish clear expectations around ownership, responsiveness, troubleshooting, documentation, and delivery quality.

  • Develop support playbooks, diagnostic checklists, escalation procedures, runbooks, and knowledge articles.

  • Manage vendor performance, SLAs, Statements of Work, escalations, and technical deliverables.

  • Ensure vendors supplement internal capability rather than replace internal technical ownership.


7. Stakeholder & Executive Management

  • Partner with:

    • Payroll Operations

    • HR/HRIT

    • Finance

    • Global Finance Operations

    • Information Security

    • Audit

    • Integration teams

    • Business stakeholders

  • Provide clear executive-level communication on application health, critical incidents, project status, risks, dependencies, decisions, and remediation plans.

  • Communicate effectively across both technical and business audiences.


Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in payroll systems, HRIS, workforce management, payroll technology, or enterprise applications.

  • Strong hands-on experience with Infor WFM and/or UKG Payroll.

  • Strong understanding of end-to-end payroll processing and workforce management.

  • Proven experience leading complex production incidents and root cause analysis.

  • Strong experience with application configuration, integrations, interfaces, APIs, file transfers, data validation, testing, and releases.

  • Experience with SQL and reporting/data analysis.

  • Experience with payroll integrations involving HR, Finance, Banking, Tax, and Time & Attendance systems.

  • Experience managing technical teams, contractors, MSPs, and vendors.

  • Experience managing technology budgets, vendor contracts, SLAs, and delivery commitments.

  • Strong technical project management and stakeholder management experience.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Business, HR, Finance, Accounting, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
